If you are a writer for this show and would like someone to buy you lots of alcohol when you visit Hawaii next time please let me know. Just please don't ask me to buy drugs for you. Yes, I know you, you writers! But seriously, I find the humor wacky, it tries to be poignant in the midst of the mad hijinx and shenanigans. This is one of those versions of Hollywood where no one seems to work all that much but the main characters, the white ones at least, live in apartments in the hills. But don't get me wrong, I'm glad someone is employing these actors, or at least some of them, because otherwise they might be over-acting in some stunt-man grindcore bullpucky. Generally, there's a lot of sympathy for the characters...The dorky guy characters are well-drawn, and have some sensitivity for the real difficulties American men face, like total metaphoric castration by their awful female partners. Boundaries are well-drawn, no blurred lines here, it's a well-crafted universe, as the writer is the main character, of course, but is this world one with happy endings to the mundane drama of this handsome and titillating couple? We live, we die, we write rom- coms...Thank god Will Arnett isn't in this show!

This show is the reason why I started liking British main roles again. Its cynical, spontaneous, dark humor's been mixed with real issues of the world of grown-ups and all the drama everyone seeks in a good love story; it's genius! It's created for ones who understand the gravity of life yet choose not to take it so seriously. Note: Mind that, as you go along, you might notice that some of the content has apparently been created just for the sake of filling out the episode time- that's why I gave it a star less. Apart from that, it's definitely much more than worth watching; it's worth coming back to again and again.

This show started out strong and had some really good comedy. What the heck happened? Gee let's pick a subject ripe for a COMEDY like depression. That should be good for some laughs! Next the brilliant writers will cover rape and molestation....yeah that should really get the people laughing.... I really hope with the recent introduction of the bar owner they will kill off the redhead and get back to some comedy because this show went from being really great to a total waste of time.I don't know of any other good current comedy shows on, so finding this was like a breath of fresh air. Then the writers got off on this depression thing and KILLED this show. Sorry, but there are subjects that have no place on a COMEDY. You want to write a drama, go for it but do not ruin the only decent sit-com on the air.

I really enjoyed this show last season. I hate this new story line with Gretchen's depression. I used to love her character! She was so funny, and so blunt. This whole depression thing is killing her character. I know depression is real, and is terrible for the person and their family and friends, but that belongs in a drama, not a comedy. I hope they bring back the old Gretchen. Her spunk was one of the things that made the show so funny. I miss the hysterical banter between Gretchen and Jimmy. Now she is almost a non- character. Bring back the crazy, awful Gretchen! Her bizarre, completely wrong behavior is essential to maintain the hilarity.
