Great Film overall

When a movie has you begging for it to end not even half way through it's pure crap. We've all seen this movie and this characters millions of times, nothing new in it. Don't waste your time.

Actress is magnificent and exudes a hypnotic screen presence in this affecting drama.

The series is well-made with good production values. Some of the dialogue and themes can be on the nose, but it actually does a good job of showing why characters made the decisions they did. What I liked best about it is that, unlike other adaptions, is mostly faithful to the original story. Some of the criticisms other people are giving it seem quite petty. This is a mythical story set in a mythical time in Greece, and therefore anachronisms are irrelevant. It's also easy to look past the colour-blind casting because everyone is Greek and so race and skin colour are irrelevant to the story and characters. The story is what's important and the story is the same as in the Iliad.

That was 8 wasted hours of my life that I'll never get back. It wasn't total rubbishy, but pretty damn close. I can live with the anachronisms since it's not a documentary, but the acting and paceing was just horrible. Most of the time I just sat with my phone checking my FB and instagram. Uncharismatic actors with poor directing. Come to think of it, it was complete garbage.

This series tells the story of the fall of Troy, decidedly from the Trojan standpoint. Maybe they thought they would counterbalance the accounts that were all written by Greeks, who come off as nasty, grump bad guys in this version. Yet except for fanciful license about the goings on in Troy, it doesn't deviate as badly from Homer as most other accounts. Parts are very well done, others are ridiculous. But what makes no sense is the multicultural cast. In this rendition, Achilles, the greatest warrior of the Greeks, is black. We can allow for this insofar as Shakespeare and classical theater are done like this but in a movie it is simply inauthentic and contrived. Helen as portrayed here isn't beautiful enough to launch a rowboat, let alone 1000 ships. The production values are not bad and there is some historical accuracy which makes the rest puzzling. Finally since it is told from the Trojan viewpoint it all goes bad for them in the end, very bad, so it is more of a tragedy.

Fantastic portrayal of Troy. A slow burn but well cast and brilliant performances all round. Warning: it's a drama, not balls to the wall action (some scenes are still quite epic though). Hope they do the Odyssey next!
