I think this is a new genre that they're all sort of working their way through it and haven't got all the kinks worked out yet but it's a genre that works for me.

Terrible acting, screenplay and direction.

a film so unique, intoxicating and bizarre that it not only demands another viewing, but is also forgivable as a satirical comedy where the jokes eventually take the back seat.

This is such a phenomenal spin-off! Russell T Davies was genius anagraming Doctor Who for it! It's a darker more adult series. The genius of Barrowman and Myles followed by the rest of the ensemble is epic. Ignore the negative nancies that also reviewed. They probably hate the new female doctor as well as a bisexual immortal.

I American series the heroes are always real hero's: No self-doubt, very serious and always right, very right. They know everything and can do everything. It is part of the American duality: good or bad, nothing in-between. That is where the Brits differ. The movies and series most of the time contain and absurd humor and self-mockery that is maybe unique in the world. Do not take things too serious, including yourself. If you do not understand that you will not like any of this series for sure. Just the example that made me fall for this series (S02E01): High speed chase with some guy with a (ridicolous) fish head alien bad guy. An elderly lady gets a green pedestrian light and crosses the the street. The bad guy fish-head stops, the lady looks in shock to the fish-head. He waves her to move on...she does and the chase goes on. Good guys follow 2-3sec later, stop at the lady and ask "did you see a fish-head pass by"... It is simply just as absurd as loony tunes maybe, you expect that at a roadrunner episode. And as you me read from this comment, I just love this series. British humor outclasses Amrican humor, by miles...no an entire universe

A group of young people battle aliens and strange events. The first two seasons of this series are very good, but there is no question that it went off the rails once the Americans got their hands on it. This review will only look at the first two years.I have been reading some of the negative reviews and I keep hearing "I am a Doctor Who fan so I tried this...". Perhaps the reason I warm to this series more than some others is that I am just a very casual viewer of Doctor Who, I am not over-the-moon about it. So for this reason I am not too concerned if Torchwood dares venture off into new areas such as homosexual characters and booze sessions. But I am not suggesting that gayness, drinking, etc, are my reasons for liking the show. The regular cast of Torchwood is very good (in the first two years) and the plots are sharp, edgy, sometimes amusing and to the point.I don't watch a lot of British TV but this series really stood out from the others and it is a crying shame it ended as badly as it did. Give it a go.

I fear that my review will be thrown into the pile of reviews made by those who rated this 1 star solely based on their opinion that it is not as good as Doctor Who because I too rated it as only 1 star. I watched Doctor who and found it to be a decent show. And based on that I decided to try this show... Honestly a big reason I enjoyed Doctor Who so much was because that for the most part it was a decently clean show. It seems I no longer can choose a show expecting it to be decent. This show is full of so much vulgar and sexual content I cannot rate it anything more than 1 star. I hoped that this, like Doctor Who would be a for the most part decent show, but I was dead wrong.I hope that by writing this review I can keep perhaps one person from making the same mistake I did in deciding to watch this show. I hope to save them from all of the vulgar inappropriate content it contains.
