Pretty good movie overall. First half was nothing special but it got better as it went along.

Blistering performances.

It is neither dumb nor smart enough to be fun, and spends way too much time with its boring human characters.

Unusual version but bought it was "decent". Great filming, music and scenery. Still disappointed the trailer made it seem better than it was. Some parts are left out from the bible. The biggest disappointment was the absence of lifting of the bronze serpent. I don't understand why they leave this out of versions?Acting was great. They did choose great actors. I did not like the casting of Moses however. No "warmth" or tenderness to him. Pharaoh was superb casting. Parts seem drastically "rushed"...suddenly Moses was old in the last...minute. Nothing leading to that really at all. Nothing done to him to make him look old apart from a terrible wig. Some others have mentioned the rushing. I agree also with others, that they depicted Moses as lack of faith, and that God wasn't around. The fiery pillar was seen only briefly too. Seemed to be leading into something then died in story. Some weird things are in it. The manna from heaven suddenly appears as weird circles on the ground. What was that about? There was also no quails! That I saw anyway?? Then Joshua seems to be doing yoga refusing to battle. That was weird. Oh and a nuclear explosion vision?! What?!Moses is depicted as being an angry screaming person. No love. Got into a fight and near strangled Joshua. WHAT THE?! "Golden calf" looked like a school art project. Wasn't even completely gold. And no they didn't break it up into pieces. Ark of the covenant was a straw box thing. Some parts were well done such as the fiery pillar and the parting of the Red Sea was great. I can tell they spent a lot of time with the fight scenes. Too bloody for me...they should've spent more time with the plagues those were blink and you miss it and other scenes. More time spent on fights and war most of the time. Apparently the company that made this made the terrible "noah's ark" (1999 with Jon Voight) movie I saw briefly a year or so ago..which was so awful and total mockery and blasphemy I stopped within about ten minutes. It was made into a totally new story. The Ten Commandments wasn't near as bad as that but worth mentioning, I thought the 1995 version (Ben Kingsley) was more memorable despite that being not 100% accurate and erasing stuff (and adding stuff). Was a disappointment so rating it a 6.

In the event you have forgotten the 1956 masterpiece, your memory will be restored when you see this very weak version of the old testament tale. This version has many different interpretations. Moses, as a young children knew of Amron and Yochobel, his true parents. In fact, Amron was alive when Moses was a child. We see a hesitating Aaron and that Moses had another brother other than the eventual King Ramses. The dialogue here is not good. When the Lord reveals himself to Moses at the burning bush, Moses just about says-"I shall not go," 3 times as if he is a stubborn child.Notice that Moses' mom never ages in this production. I thought that Zipporah would actually be jealous of her mother-in-law's beauty. The plagues come in rapid succession movie wise and Ramses looks more like a mummy. The thespians merely state their lines. There is little to no emotion depicted here.

So, I haven't actually seen this movie, but the last person's comment was that Moses is made out to be a whiner, and that later in the movie he has the believers slaughter the unbelievers and cuts a second set of tablets. If that's the case, I really want to see this, because that's far more biblically accurate than the deMille's movie. In the Bible Moses *was* a whiner to begin with, and when the golden calf incident occurred, he had the tribe of Levi kill about 3000 people, and then God told him to cut new tablets to replace the ones he had broken. Just thought I'd say it to clarify that yes, it actually is in there, no matter how unpleasant we may think it.

This has been one of the worst biblical adaptation movies I have ever seen, if not the worst. If you are a serious believer and looking to build a spiritual library out of 'visual bible' DVD components, then look away from this DVD. As other posters have said (and I now have to consider coming on here before I waste money on movies) this movie is not actually based on the bible - some scenes are really added on that don't belong there.example, Moses killing an Egytpian because he was going to rape someone's wife, and then that same husband committing adultery and murdering the woman's husband...is not found in the bible. They essentially make their own movie that has no relationship to accurate historical biblical accounts. I'm going to make a mental note of the director/producer and will avoid renting or viewing any other movies from them that are biblically based. What a heresy.
