wbanders The lists below is only from the first 15 minutes.Now although I teach Texas History, I'm not going to claim to be a detailed expert. However if you are looking for a min-series/film about Texas, skip this piece of crap.1. The Alamo ended March 6th, not March 7th. What writer/tech consultation etc couldn't do some basic fact checking.2. I wasn't aware there was a majestic 400 foot cliff desert mesa in Gonzalez, Texas. My how the hill country has changed in the last 180 years.3. The Karankawa Indians are riding horses across the desert chasing Mexican soldiers. Again I wasn't aware there was a desert between San Antonio de Bexar and Gonzalez, nor that the Karankawa ever ranged that far from the Texas Coast, much less on horses, which there are no reports of them ever using.Not to mention the Karankawa sided with Mexico during the Revolution, and were already almost extinct.I had to stop watching in the first episode. Any one of my 7th grade honors students could have written a more accurate narrative.

Justin Denson We were extremely excited for this mini-series. But I live in San Jacinto and Victoria coastal plains region of Texas and there are not mountains and bluffs to hide in. Its wetlands and a lot of trees and FLAT. It was hard to connect to the story knowing it probably wasn't even shot in Texas. Sims Bayou Bridge is near downtown Houston for crying out loud! Also, a lot of liberty was taken in telling Emily West's story. I don't recall reading she and Houston were romantically involved.The series had too many side stories and plots going on as well and it was hard to keep up with what was going on. In my opinion this would have been great, with the existing cast, but made into 10 episodes. They kinda wrapped it up at the end, they hardly gave people time to read the final summary of the characters. Seems like the principle characters we were given 1 second to read a short paragraph and the smaller roles, with only one or two sentences the viewer had 5 seconds to read.Lastly, my wife, who cries about anything, shed not one tear during this series, which means it failed to make an emotional connection. That is sad commentary in itself considering how passionate many of us native Texan's are about our history.

ckw5205 Too bad even Bill Paxton admitted fictional characters were okay. There are too many false events to write. History Channel takes a big dive in credibility with this farce. The Yellow Rose "person" is fictional and a myth at best. These writers, directors and producers should at least have to take a basic course in Texas history to come up with a "biopic" such as this. The time line is all wrong, Santa Ana didn't come back until a year after Houston was elected President. It infers Deaf Smith died of TB and there is no evidence of that. There is no reference to how Santa Ana was really captured. There are too many things bad about this crappy show to write here. It's insulting to any real Texan and Paxton should be embarrassed.

lady-leverage I rarely leave reviews, but as I have seen some of the not so nice reviews about this epic miniseries I felt the need to come and put in my two sense. I will do my best to write this review it with limited spoilers but there may be a few so you have been warned. First off I must say that Bill Paxton, Brenden Fraiser, Christopher McDonald, Oliver Martinez and the entire cast have done a phenomenal job bringing such a historical event to life. I cannot turn away, even during the bloody parts when I wish I could, I find myself on the edge of my seat with anticipation! Jeffrey Dean Morgan though has stolen the series for me, his performance as "Deaf" Smith is one of, if not the best, of his career thus far. His loyalty and strength even while battling his own demon in the form of an illness is showcased with a preciseness that few could have pulled off. Throughout the series we see a transformation that is gut wrenching on the outside but his spirit remains so strong and beautiful that one could almost weep. I cannot praise the acting talents of Mr. Morgan enough in his portrayal and he alone is enough reason to take the epic 10 hour journey that is Texas Rising. (The farther in the series progressed the more in love I found myself falling with this this valiant character.) The conclusion of Texas Rising is just less than a week away and although I cannot wait for it to air, I am sad that it will be over. I have traveled to a place in history with this series that we only skimmed over in history class and find myself researching the actual events as each week airs, so not only is it entertaining but also educational! I highly recommend that you NOT take the negative reviews that you see about TR as final word and that you give the series a shot for yourself especially if you are into this sort of thing. Oh and check out Ray Liotta! Although you will have to look hard to recognize him he is rather shocking and brings gritty to a whole new level.
