Admirable film.

This is a small, humorous movie in some ways, but it has a huge heart. What a nice experience.

This is a coming of age storyline that you've seen in one form or another for decades. It takes a truly unique voice to make yet another one worth watching.

Let me be very fair here, this is not the best movie in my opinion. But, this movie is fun, it has purpose and is very enjoyable to watch.

Season 1Plot - I have no idea what happened. There are too many subplots and way too many characters. Its like the the writer had ADD (that is assuming that there was actually a writer). Nothing and no-one is developed. The people who made this were way more focused on sex scenes and scenes that feel like they should mean something but don't because they didn't spend any time setting anything up. I would've preferred a narrator that just states everyone's name and backstory as opposed to this. They probably should've picked one or two characters, and developed their conflict before having a dozen different conflicts with even more characters. The acting isn't very good, and I'm not sure that this even qualifies as storytelling. Not good storytelling at least. Sound - The sound design is surprisingly bad. Most of the actors seem to be whispering their lines, and it doesn't help that the background music is mixed way louder than the voices. There are also a lot of bits where the audio awkwardly cuts out, and random shots where the sound is a few seconds off. Editing - This show looks ok. There are a lot of bits earlier on where it feels like the camera should be on a tripod, but its moving a little bit. Nothing too bad or fantastic. I am genuinely confused by all the positive feedback for this absolute mess. For anyone who says "its just a web series" or "it was their first try" I would like to point out that there are good web series. Also, every first draft is terrible. If you want a story to be good, you have to read it over, edit it, and actually put in a significant amount of effort. I wouldn't care about the technical problems if there was actually a story and not an obnoxious and boring conglomeration of subplots with no point. Nothing here is done well, and I have just lost 1:05:30 of my life (plus however long it took me to write this) that I will never get back.

When I first found this show late at night on YouTube I admit I was a bit hesitant to watch because I am, unfortunately (or, maybe, fortunately?) not a teenager. Then I started watching it and I found that I couldn't stop (albeit the first season is online all as one video, like a movie, so it made it easier to forget about the time because it didn't end after each episode). There are some minor issues in the first two seasons from imperfect-but-not-horrible sound mixing to some uneven supporting performances (notably the Doctor in season one and Ray Ablack's character's douchey friends in season two), yet this is made up by beautiful camera angles, stellar direction and music choices, as well as amazing performances by the leads (especially Chloe Rose, from Degrassi fame, the camera loves her here). By the time I got to the third season (recently released) I was pleasantly surprised to see it had gotten even better. The sound is clear, the score sounds like something out of a A24 movie, the story is shocking and captivating, the acting better than ever. I was compelled to leave a note here, which says something about the craft of the show. It is some great story-telling, definitely recommend! Congrats to the cast and crew of Teenagers.

This is one of the first web series I ever watched and from the first to the second season, it has flourished into one of the most engaging and cinematic series on YouTube. With a diverse cast that includes Emmanuel Kabongo and Chloe Rose, this series takes viewers on a roller coaster ride of drama, that never feels forced or inauthentic. Similar to the UK series Skins, Teenagers follows a group of kids from different backgrounds, sexual orientations, etc, all connected by various relationships and circumstances. The dialog is extremely well written and the acting is top notch. The cinematography is also beautiful and the show has developed a distinct, dark, yet colorful style that's exciting to watch. Emmanuel Kabongo is a stand-out for his sensitive portrayal of a black teenager that doesn't fit the usual stereotypes we see on TV. 9/10!
