As somebody who had not heard any of this before, it became a curious phenomenon to sit and watch a film and slowly have the realities begin to click into place.

A great movie, one of the best of this year. There was a bit of confusion at one point in the plot, but nothing serious.

Being one of most the famous movie critic of past week or so I will give this TV series a rating of 3 out of 10. The story, cast, and the graphics are, I guess "ok" to watch this series have a lot of bad things. Main bad thing is where this series promotes some German and Essex bitches and that I find is very RESIST. I was born in Middle Sex and I want to see some Middle sex and Sussex bitches also. Why there were no good bitches in Middle-sex and Sussex?Felt in love with these characters and I would pay any amount to see these witches (Mostly the main characters) killed in real life. :)

Gather every single fear or stereotype about puritans, witches, religious dogma and it's devils then wrap them tightly in extremely bad writing, stoic acting, corny plot twists and cheesy special effect. There you have it- Salem. It's scary right from the first episode and not in a good way. Certainly not because of it's extremely dark premise or obvious villainous plot lines. No dear ones, expect no subtleties. We might as well have big bold letters across the screen warning us -witchery devils ahead- like a big old red stop sign. Yes, that's how bad this sordid mess develops. The most scary part is knowing people actually rate this as good entertainment.Oh the horror... the horror....But then again maybe I'm reading it all wrong. Perhaps it's just a really bad comedy. Parody perhaps? Whatever it claims to be, Salem fails miserably on all fronts. Not for the educated or enlightened.

The main strength of Salem is its plot line, the Salem Witch Trial were real and witches were involved. This in itself could have been quite an interesting story. The plot is both interesting and captivating. Scenes of salaciousness and gore are abundant, almost Game of Thrones level. But it is all undermined by a weak and frankly moronic script. The show presents all witches present as evil, no chance for even a hint of any of them desiring to do good. This in itself is insulting to actual practitioners of witchcraft, Wiccans and other Pagans world over. The Christians in the show are presented as hypocrites but at least they are not genocidal hypocrites; at least that's how the first season began but by Season 1 end, you can hardly distinguish one from the other because they all do the exact same things. Salem is also quite horrifying and not in an entertaining way, on how it presents the female characters.Basically, all the women on the show who are shown as independent or strong are either all evil or end up dying, literally, every woman in the show who shows an interest in sex is either evil or ends up dead. The characters would have been interesting but the script undermines them and makes them uninteresting. Nonetheless, Janet Montgomery's character, Mary Sibley is quite entertaining.Without mentioning the numerous plot holes and unresolved side stories the show is quite terrible. World building as well is weak, the magic performed by the witches is hardly understandable. One moment someone chants a strange language and then another moment spells are cast in English. There is no consistency of any kind. Basically, the magic whatever the scriptwriters came up on the crapper while reading a mishmash of Harry Potter and Lord of the Rings and whatever teenage targetted novel they read.Salem is TV show written by mostly male writers with some very ridiculous notions and lack of worldly experience. It's basically "Interview with a Vampire" meets witches and TV cable. I strongly advise people against watching the show.

Women have had hard times over so many centuries. One of the worst blows of fate was the witch hunts, where everybody became a devil by denouncing little liked neighbors/competitors etc. and when women were burnt just because clergy was terrified by their own sexual feelings and because of the female period etc. - sounds silly and disgusting? Well it was. And one of the modern achievements is that there are almost equal rights for men and women - don't get me wrong, women get to feel injustices from men any day still (and not only in poorer countries and not only biologically or payroll-wise), but we are slowly approaching a delicate balance. And though many achievements of feminism have been buried again by dumb men- and beauty-focused women since the 80s, some insights have trickled through crusted brains. And suddenly there is a show who destroys all those wins and bombs us back into times where women were burned at stakes partly because of characterless men and partly because of other jealous dumb women - super bummer. And why exploit this delicate subject? Just for cheap audience winning tricks. Don't get me wrong, I like supernatural shows, but why do they have to take place in Salem at this time where so many innocents where tortured to death? We have finally realized that these doings were horrible and wrong, and then this show postulates that there have been real and particularly evil witches - which would justify the witch hunts! It's like/ as wrong as if there was a show about Jews in 1940 being evil warlocks which have to be stopped by being gassed - horrible, tasteless, wrong idea? EXACTLY!!! And I do not want to get started about the disgusting cruelty towards animals. Enough hideous children still seem to think that blowing up frogs and cutting off rat tails etc. etc. are nothing bad!!! Disgusting, the makers should be ashamed!
