This is a tender, generous movie that likes its characters and presents them as real people, full of flaws and strengths.

After playing with our expectations, this turns out to be a very different sort of film.

Each character in this movie — down to the smallest one — is an individual rather than a type, prone to spontaneous changes of mood and sometimes amusing outbursts of pettiness or ill humor.

The film's masterful storytelling did its job. The message was clear. No need to overdo.

I've just finished what is probably my fourth rewatch of Revenge. I first began watching just before season four aired. I absolutely love this show. The cast is all around fantastic, but Emily VanCamp and Madeline Stowe completely nail their roles.Henry Czerny did as well. When he popped up on Quantico, I could hardly take his character seriously because he'd cemented himself in my mind as Conrad Grayson. As with any show, there's bits and pieces that I didn't love as much, but overall this show kept me on edge from episode to episode. Even in rewatches, knowing what was to come, I was still completely invested in the show. Highly recommend.

I watched all of season one and began two before it was removed from Netflix. Season one began in an intriguing, fast paced manner that left you hoping for the next episode and wondering what was next. But they came in a little strong in the beginning with good action and tasteful downfalls, until nearing the middle-end of the season. Season one dragged on and on and spent too many episodes focusing on Conrad and Victoria's crumbling marriage and the personal shots they take at one another. After a few episodes in season 2 the show lost my interest. My interest was lost because the acting can be so cheesy. Emily and Victoria constantly deliver stiff, obviously rehearsed lines not only to each other, but to everyone the communicate with. It is as if Emily WANTED Vic to know she hated her, and she was making no real effort to be the sweet new girl next door character. No words out of their mouths (even when spoken sincerely) could be heard as such because it sounded so staged. Too many times do we see Victoria crying to her oh so beloved Daniel that "this is for your own good". He will leave or be mad for an episode or two, and then back into their home as he does, just as expected. Nolan repeatedly makes juvenile remarks such as "omg!" or "shes's cray cray", paired up with his distasteful collared shirt on collared shirt style makes him another far-fetched character. Jack and Declan are the only two characters I could find to be the least problematic and most believable. It can be easy to binge watch until you see a film or show with good acting and a stronger plot and realize that the show isn't as awesome as we originally think.

Certainly much of the acting is great. The premise is great. The settings are wonderful and the people look amazing, the photography is great, lighting wonderful with warm sunsets. Except, it gets tiresome to see moneyed people flaunt their wealth. It usually means someone else has paid for it on minimum wage. Much of the evil skulduggery is based on hacked web cams and computers. It is truly surprising that with all the personal "security" and tech these wealthy people must have at their disposal, why hasn't anyone figured out that the dirty secrets come from hidden cameras? The truly wonderful part of the whole series is the leading lady, Emily. She is a never ending ray of sunshine. And furthermore, she is Canadian! Not jaded by the Hollywood world, ever poised, and terrifying at the same time.Having now finished watching the whole series, it does end with suspense and love. You know the ending you want, but wonder if the writers will make it come true. Emily just gets better. My only criticism is that it starts to play like an Italian opera with everyone getting killed or dying at the end (apart from the good guys). Why is it that only the good guys survive the shootings, stabbings and mayhem? Also, I can't get passed the conveniences that keep the story running. People who conveniently overhear others, security that works for one but not another. Also Emily's dad's death is also a bit convenient as a tear jerking moment. Just for fun, when watching Emily do her training, notice how she is facing away from the camera and her back muscles seem to come and go. Can you say double?

Highly recommended. If you are looking for a new kind of drama with a strong female main character, brilliantly played by Emily VanCamp, then Revenge is definitely your show.Yes, it has its's lows in writing, and there is without a doubt a lack in realism and consistency to some degree that you have to overlook, but the show was originally classified as a Soap after all (although it's not a classic Soap or Telenovela at all, so don't be mistaken).S1 was absolutely one of the greatest drama seasons I have ever seen, and yes, the show touches some soap clichés and "anything-goes"-writing to some degree in S 2-4, but the overall experience is great, if you once start watching, you will stick with it.Cons:Inconsistency in storytelling to some degreeSome unnecessary introduction of side characters and side story lines that lead nowhereSometimes sloppy writing in S 2-4, where it seems they it was all too comfortable to explain some things away, because it's soapy alreadyPros:Characters you can care about, or to root for A general premise that immediately allows you to connect with the main character and leaves you wanting to see one rich bastard after the other fall yourself, loosely based on the Count of Monte ChristoBrilliant acting by Emily VanCamp (Emily Thorne/Amanda Clarke), Madeleine Stowe(as vicious Queen Victoria Grayson), Henry Czerny (as ruthless patriarch Conrad Grayson) and Nolan Ross (as Emily's sidekick Nolan Ross)One of the most bad-ass female characters in television: Emily Thorne Emotional story lines, scenes and episodes, that will make you laugh and cryTwists and turns that will shock you, and leave you breathless (although some might argue that they jumped the shark with one particular twist at the end of S3, and they may be right)Very powerful final episodes in every season, and even better season finales that will leave you wanting moreOne of the best scores and soundtracks in drama television in last couple of years in my opinion, that really generates the perfect atmosphere and fits the emotional scenes perfectly The show has an actual ending, an ending you can agree or disagree with, but at least a conclusion, not like other shows that drive you crazy with shitty endings
