Rescue Me Audience Reviews

IslandGuru Who payed the critics
Lollivan It's the kind of movie you'll want to see a second time with someone who hasn't seen it yet, to remember what it was like to watch it for the first time.
Griff Lees Very good movie overall, highly recommended. Most of the negative reviews don't have any merit and are all pollitically based. Give this movie a chance at least, and it might give you a different perspective.
Casey Duggan It’s sentimental, ridiculously long and only occasionally funny
Eddie_weinbauer I started watching this cause of denis leary, and cause everyone talked about it. A side from a few funny moments here and there this really was a crap show. They never put out fires either. You see them walking into burning buildings to rescue people, but they never really put out the fire. An the fires are just usually so small they could be put out with a bucket of water. I dunno bout you, but if I'm in a burning building with debris falling from the roof,I wouldn't take of my helmet. But these guys do it all the time, while burning debris raining all around them.To me, that seemed unrealistic. I also think this would be a low key show, if it wasn't for denis leary constantly making connection to the firefighters who lost their life on ground zero. Tu summarize the story of the show Drinking, complaining, screwing, cheating, more drinking, and maybe some walk in a burning building just so you don't fall a sleep
jsbritts-626-62058 I recently discovered rescue me because of James McCaffrey being in it (Max Payne, baby!) and never have I enjoyed a TV series so much. This is so addicting that I devoured each season in about 2 days because it always pulls you in and of course, at the end, leaves you wanting MORE and to know what happens after the cliff hangers that inevitably fall at the end of each episode. I would get done with each series and think to myself, "oh my dear lord did I seriously just watch 5 freaking hours of TV?" What I loved so much about this show is the constant wondering if something was really happening or if it is imagined. Many times you would see Tommy destroying a room in anger or doing something terrible or drinking when he had committed to sobriety only to find out that he was just dreaming or having a flash of the way things could have been. That is reality for many people, and I for one am someone who often lives much too deeply in the past and forever feel guilt or sadness for things I will never be able to change, and I think that is why I connected so much to this show. Grief and sadness and resentment and anger are true in life even without such tragedies as 09/11 and some deal with it and some just can't or don't. The interesting thing to think about is, wouldn't it be AWESOME to be able to communicate with those people that you have left behind? To be able to have conversations with your dead cousin who was your best friend? Tommy gets to have savored every moment with them alive and now he gets to savor even more moments with them after they are gone. Sober or not, that is a truly magnificent thing that I think he often takes for granted. This show can be so freakin' hilarious and then be so incredibly sad or shocking at the same time and again this is why you just can't stop watching. Each season is good and the story lines are always interesting. There is never a dull moment. The actors all melt into their roles beautifully and it is so entertaining to watch the actors in the extras to see how far they have wavered from their true selves in the characters they play.AWESOME job. I was so sad to see this end but it will truly stay with me forever.
ihaveshair I was really looking forward to the return of new episodes, because I love the show and have watched it from day one. I know how near and dear the show is to Denis Leary and Peter Tolan, and you can really see that in every episode. However, that being said, I will admit that some of Rescue Me was hard to watch, because it seemed to venture off of what the shows origins were about. The new season, I know only 2 shows into, is feeling the same way to me. I almost stopped watching the first episode when Janet and Shelia were giggling like fools, but I thought. "this must be going somewhere". Well, I was wrong, because the next episode showed them in the same light, but now they added Colleen and Katie as crying and being annoying as well. Its a GREAT show , but it needs to focus on the fire house and the brave, wonderful, complex firemen of NYC that was the intent of the show. That being said, I will watch, if not only as a homage to the firemen of NYC, but also to the intent behind the show.
Howlin Wolf I thought that the first instalment of the final hybrid seasons was watchable - I've seen all 6 seasons up until the time of writing and never thought anything less than that. The comedy, acting and the camaraderie of the guys in the firehouse is all preserved into its last lap, but the show just doesn't have the same great mix of humour and drama anymore. The killing off of big characters and cliffhangers that are just totally dropped in time for the start of the next season completely undermines any tension or continuity. This choppy feeling of flow is a problem from Season Four onwards.Out of respect for the characters and the guys who perform them superbly, I'm still happy to keep watching though. By having the ending roughly coincide with the 10th anniversary of 9/11, they are picking the perfect time to bow out.
