Why so much hype?

Memorable, crazy movie

The movie's neither hopeful in contrived ways, nor hopeless in different contrived ways. Somehow it manages to be wonderful

The story, direction, characters, and writing/dialogue is akin to taking a tranquilizer shot to the neck, but everything else was so well done.

My friend made me watch episode one, and its not that good. Its over-the-top but not in a good way. I was too bored to cringe, and I would not recommend this show.

After hearing about this anime through the internet and countless lists on great anime to binge watch, I was negated to watch this through it appearing to be aimed at girls and it seemed to be a sharp contrast from the common dark stories that usually make anime an intense experience. But after succumbing to illness and being bedridden for a few days I decided to have a look at the first episode. Oh boy, was I surprised. I can only compare it to the likes of Wes Anderson if he were to make an anime; the overflow of colour and lights, hilarious and sometimes black comedy, complete with excellently developed characters with unusual idiosyncrasies.Although its main narrative isn't anything groundbreaking or original, it's definitely portrayed differently and it's the perfect idea to be exaggerated in the world of anime. The characters are wonderful oddities and aren't afraid to be different or to explore taboo subjects. To the unknowing viewer, some of the topics shown might be considered 'over the line' but talking from the experience of watching this, it's better to embrace the weirdness of this show as it has a lot to offer in its run of 26 episodes. The show isn't driven by a hard hitting story and doesn't aim for tear-jerking moments, excessive gore or fantastical sci-fi; it uses it's simplicity to its advantage by focusing on all of the main characters and their contrasts with each other, also introducing a few hints of satire towards social class in there.Overall, I advise anyone - even if you're a guy trying to preserve your masculinity - to give this show a watch. It's outrageous and funny and the material doesn't get old, especially with the use of frequent fourth-wall breaks and genuinely sweet interludes. I was extremely surprised by this and I'll be sure to re-watch it soon.

This is one anime that I never expected myself to watch. My girlfriend and her girlfriends went crazy about this anime. I took one look at it, and decided it wasn't my thing. Looked like the most girl thing in the world. Later, I was randomly on IMDb.com, and I bumped into this show. I took a look at the story, and it was actually kind of cool. So I downloaded the entire show in English dubbed. It was 12:30 p.m. And I watched the first episode. It was one of the funniest things I have ever watched! It had hilarious and awesome characters, a clever story, amazing animation, and so on. After that, I watched the 2nd episode, then the 3rd, then the 4th. At that point it was pretty late in the day and I decided to only watch up to the half way point. When I got there, I couldn't stop, so I decided to watch a few more episodes. On episode 20 I said "forget it". Next thing I know it's 6 a.m and I finished the last episode. It literally came out of nowhere by how much I loved it. In one day, it became my second favorite anime, (1st being DBZ). Everything about it is so cool. Not just for girls either, it's got some pretty hilarious guy humor as well. The story is pretty clever. During scholarship student Haruhi Fujioka's first day at Ouran Academy Private School, she "accidentally" joins a host club full of six male gentlemen, (all mistaking her for a guy) from a direct cause of her knocking over an 8,000,000 yen vase. After realizing her true gender at the end of the episode, they continue to have her serve as a host to pay the debt with her guy appearance and personality. The rest of the show is pretty much her tasting the life of rich people, while they taste the life of poor people. There's a bit more in the mangas, but I really don't care for them to be honest. Though I must say this is one anime that I enjoyed 100%. Very good and well made anime that is definitely worth checking out. Whether you're a guy or a girl, this should be enjoyable.

Truth be told, when I first looked it up, I figured it would be another sad teen series. Boy was I wrong. This series was a true comedy of errors, every joke was spot on, every character was well played, every episode a feast for story lovers and comedy lovers everywhere. Haruhi, in my opinion, has to be my favorite character of them all. She's smart, interesting, and a perfectly thought out character when it comes to the situation she's in. I also love seeing her interactions with the 'rich bastards' that are always looking out for her in this strange, yet oh so fun, high school. If you have the chance (even if you're a guy) watch this. It's a great experience that won't fail to satisfy... now if they could only make more episodes, THEN I would be truly happy.
