When a movie has you begging for it to end not even half way through it's pure crap. We've all seen this movie and this characters millions of times, nothing new in it. Don't waste your time.

To all those who have watched it: I hope you enjoyed it as much as I do.

After the passing of Alan Young on May 19 (2016) of this year I fired up a few episodes of Mr. Ed in tribute to Mr. Young. Having watched it as a kid I was curious how it would hold up. It was still funny and witty and held up quite well. All the episodes are available on youtube in good quality. It easily holds its own with many of the more current comedies being put out today. Given that it is nearly 50 years old you don't have cell phones, but you do have party lines and gossipy neighbors. Of course you also have a world-wise talking horse who is integrated quite cleverly into each week's plot line. It is not a bad option for family TV time as both kids and adults can appreciate it. Some sexual innuendo of a mild nature, but still a "G" viewing experience.

My Dad and three brothers and I watched the show when I was around the age of 9. I recall Mr. Ed saying "Wellll give the boy a Kewpie Doll". But I cannot find any proof online nor can I find anyone who watched the show that remembers that. Did I imagine it or maybe I heard it on another show? This has been a recurring trivia thing for me for years. My wife thinks I am nuts. Hopefully someone out there has watched the DVD's and can help me out. I think I will eventually get the DVD set for my grandkids who are in the 4-8 year range now. I am curious as to how the series ended, did it have a "Final Episode? That will be the next trivia question for me to have to answer.

You have to look beyond the obvious words always used to describe shows like this -- i.e., "inane" and "silly" to see that Mister Ed was (1) pure, good-natured escapism from a time that was terribly tense the world over and (2) simply part of the rural trend that shaped situation comedies of the period -- e.g., Petticoat Junction, Green Acres and the others that let us "get away from it all" for 30 minutes every week. The real value of Mister Ed, then as now, was to remove us from the world at hand and let us imagine a life of clean living folks, simple tragedies and happy endings. Mister Ed is still a pleasant sight for eyes made sore by all that's so coarse and unsightly around us today. That's why I hope this inoffensive program stays in reruns another 40 years. And so should you. ~~
