Kings Audience Reviews

FuzzyTagz If the ambition is to provide two hours of instantly forgettable, popcorn-munching escapism, it succeeds.
ThrillMessage There are better movies of two hours length. I loved the actress'performance.
Invaderbank The film creates a perfect balance between action and depth of basic needs, in the midst of an infertile atmosphere.
Cristal The movie really just wants to entertain people.
dfarhie-1 I purchased the DVD of this remarkable production with the intention of delving into the plots and cross-plots and intrigue which is what I appreciate about the genre. I was pleasantly surprised that watching it the second time I picked up on all the subtle and not-so-subtle religious overtones. It never hit me the first time how much it mimics the biblical story. Sure, I saw the David v. Goliath reference, Silas rather than Saul.. the son Jonathan, who loved David (here in a jealousy not mentioned in the Bible), and all the rest. It's not that I didn't see them, but the quality of the production, the amazing Ian McShane, who can sell poop to a fly with that mellow-as-a-good-cab voice blinded me to the substrate of the story. At first, I regretted not having a second season, but now, I feel it's a complete package. I strongly recommend this series.
joliefille411 I remember last year when I saw the adverts for Kings. I thought it was some kind of futuristic post-collapse of democracy thing. It wasn't until I was rifling through the infinite wonderland of Hulu last month that I realized this was a re-imagining of the biblical saga of David and Saul. What a complete botch up on the part of NBC (no surprise there!). With such a faithful account, those drawn in by the ads expecting a sci-fi would be turned off and those actually interested in the religious aspects would have no knowledge of its existence. But on to the show itself! It's wonderfully written, acted, and styled. I did think the butterfly theme a little corny. Christopher Egan was David- just the image of ruddy youth. Ian McShane's Saul was tortured, pathetic, benevolent- a markedly human character that never felt acted, just lived. Allison Miller and Eamonn Walker were also very good, but the standout was Marlyne Afflack as Thomasina. She conveyed so much through the least lines. Two detractions in the cast/characters. No matter how fine an actor Macaulay Culkin may prove to be, his image carries so much baggage it is nigh on to impossible to see him as anyone but Macaulay Culkin. It's nothing he does wrong or right, just something that inevitably throws me out of context when he comes on screen. Secondly, I find it frustrating that the bond David and Jonathan shared is modernly construed as sexual: leading to the homosexualising of Jack. Yes, I know Kings is only a re-imagining and subject to any interpretations out there (besides the fact that I am now alluding to events that never actually get realized in the shortened run of the show), but the nature of the friendship of David and Jonathan inevitably reflects on their character, and basing their defining actions on sexual tension over deep respect and loyalty casts it in a cheapened light, not to mention displays a lack of understanding about a culture the writers grasped in so many other ways. But as I said, many, many more aspects are played out beautifully in both a wretched and sublime manner. I cannot begin to express how terribly I wish the show had continued.
stephanie-arnett I was so upset to discover that this show was being canceled- the themes are so elevated and the cinematography genius- I really don't know what to say about the cancellation- other than I am completely and utterly disappointed- has the viewing of TV become about silly jokes and stereotypical dialogue? Must there be some magical formula to determine the success of a show? Because here is a show that does not conform- that allows us to think @ a higher level- examines old dead themes in a fresh young way- that inspires others at work and in life- has a cast that any show would dream for and writers that speak not above us but to us- I ask you- how is this canceled? To the cast and crew- thank you so much- I have enjoyed you and have looked forward to your episodes- I am sorry for your cancellation- I am a fan- I support you and your work
jinsworld After being moved by numerous episodes of Kings, I've decided to write a review for the first time on IMDb (or any other video site).First of all, I usually don't watch TV, especially reality, sitcom, and series. I despise majority of trash that networks put out on TV for pure profit. However, Kings seemed to have skewed my perspective towards Hollywood - maybe Hollywood still has a bit of passion left. Perhaps some contents can be good and profitable, as well as satisfying pedantic and niche viewers such as myself. With this being said, I just cannot describe how incredible Kings is! The character development, acting, and scriptwriting are all spectacular. I would like to give props to everyone who made this series possible. Despite its similarity with David and Goliath or basically knowing how the story will progress, the series still manages to surprise me during every episode.I really hope that NBC continues with this series. I will definitely look forward to purchasing the DVD box set if the series survives.I've been watching this series on Hulu and it gave me this message when I was attempting to "express" my thoughts about the show. "This review is very similar to a previous review someone already posted." - this is very annoying. What do I have to do to get have opinion heard? Why can't these corporations open up more?
