filmcomedybuff Many comedies on the BBC have been extremely poor in recent years. This one has had a great deal of attention for its awfulness. It is bad - primarily, the writing is amateur at best - but there have been much worse, like Two Doors Down, which is one of the worst television shows ever created. At least this one has a talented cast on its side. John Cleese can't help but be funny, even when the scripts are this terrible. Similarly Alison Steadman and James Cosmo is just naturally likeable. It's not good, but starting with a dreadful pilot, it did get a bit better as it went on. Don't be surprised if it gets a second series. With Two Doors Down just finishing season 3, its clear they'll try anything.

elocydna I am old enough to remember when John Cleese was occasionally funny. Then there was "Monty Python's" where he went downhill a level.I'm pleased to see he is now reduced to a soap.I'm old enough to remember "Terry and June". A sitcom so lacking in humour that the laughter was confined to audiences in Surrey. Hence the birth of the category "Surrey Soap" in our house.I think other IMDB users would appreciate this category. Few people would think of searching in "Comedy" for this dross.

jmnoates-90835 I so wanted to like this. I think that John Cleese is a comic genius but I have watched 4 of the 6 episodes and I haven't even managed a smile. It simply isn't funny and it's such a shame that John Cleese's return to television should be in this appalling series is such a shame.The BBC produces some fine television but this doesn't even come close. As a licence payer I only hope that they don't waste anymore of my money on a second series.
