mbduffy I just love "Foyle"s War" and all the characters and their actors. I have admired Michael Kitchen's acting for many years.. He can convey more in just a "hmm" or a cocked eyebrow than with a whole lot of dialogue. The only problem I have ever had is the BIG mistake made in the episode with Samantha and her American boyfriend, Joe. As they are walking along and he is recapping his biography, he states that he trained at Fort Benning, Virginia. Wrong! Everyone knows that Fort Benning is located in Georgia. I was so surprised that Mr. Horowitz would make such a glaring error, given his extensive historical references. Being an Englishman is not an acceptable excuse. If you know about Ft. Benning and its extensive training facilities, you should know that it is in Georgia.

raymond-70 Foyle's War is a very good detective series which also gives fascinating insights into life in England during and shortly after the Second World War. In my opinion it is very well written and portrayed. With one exception i enjoy everything about it immensely: With few exceptions everyone in it are portrayed as heavy smokers and there is no event in it that is not a good excuse for having a cigarette – something that i am sure that the tobacco industry is very happy about. I am fully aware that smoking was much more accepted then, but i believe that it is totally unnecessary to furnish that despicable industry with advertisement.

smithj-63555 I found the first episode to be very boring....had to reopen it three times to get through it. Now I can't wait for the next episode. After decades of ridiculing British TV, we delve into all Brit shows we can find. This one tops them all. It's awesome the way Foyle can raise an eyebrow to make a emphatic statement! Quite the actor and surprised we never heard if him. Sam is a hoot. We laugh every time her real name appears on the opening credits. Thought we Americans had a lock on weired names, but Brit TV credits replaced us. Foyle symbolizes the transition from "old world" to new just in its sets. Shifting from the original police building to the new one made it seem vastly more modern in its look. One thing I hate is they introduce a story line in an episode with characters who disappear without telling what happened to them (i.e., the ex-policeman who returned home to find his son working in a "gentleman's club", whipped up on the Intelligence officer who appeared in the Rissian House episode, was arrested, then pfwttttt...gone). They intertwine multiple story lines in each episode, leave farrr too many options for the baddie, then dump the real baddie in from some obscure character out of left field (the real killer of the Brit girl who loved the US Black soldier). Hope that wasn't a spoiler....it was merely an example. I thoroughly enjoyed this series even though they leave in so many unexplained things like why Foyle went to the States, and what he did there to cause so much trouble. It served as a vehicle to introduce Foyle's switch from cop to secret agent, but it was a major shifting of gears without the use of a clutch. Grinding!

Clothahump A very good whodunnit!Excellent acting, but the thing that impresses me the most is the quality of the writing. Every episode, my wife and I try to figure out who's gonna get whacked and who will do the whacking within the first five minutes. More than half the time, we'll get one or the other. Rarely do we get both. The rest of the time, we get pitched a very clever curve ball or two that totally makes us facepalm ourselves when the good Inspector lowers the boom on the bad guy(s).I wish there were more episodes. This is a very high quality show, one of the few quality shows made lately.
