Good movie, but best of all time? Hardly . . .

This is one of the few movies I've ever seen where the whole audience broke into spontaneous, loud applause a third of the way in.

Canada can do better. That I am sure. It feels, looks and sounds like it's a 1980s attempt at silly sci fi. Cgi is 1980s comical. Backround music is cheesy as is the sounds and dialogue. The acting and actors equally silly as Canada re treads a few from their other shows. It's just not good.
BUT once u know what you are going to get you can sit and be somewhat entertained. Nothing stands out as good. But, there has been worse. And if nothing else it's watchable given all that's bad about it.

It ended at the right time.Season one was excellent, good characters, intrigue, mystery, generally good writing. The best reviews are for season one. It's fascinating finding out who they were and how they got to their predicament. Two: "Stop looking at my ass", cool, we were all looking. Modern politics mean we can't have sexually charged characters any more - which also means their essence of humanity and drive is replaced with a void.Seasons two and three tend towards autopilot, I still enjoyed them, but felt aware that the edge had been lost. More characters become one dimensional and start to contradict their earlier selves, the plot thins due to lack of imagination or too much debate about direction by the writers, loose ends such as time travel complications, they just dug themselves into a deeper and deeper hole while trying to ensure the series got renewed. Also as time went on I felt the actors weren't taking things seriously or didn't want to be there - maybe they looked at their lines and thought 'why would my character say/do that'?For season one: 10 stars.
Season 2: 8 stars.
Season 3: 6 stars - Japanese emporer plot silly, more like kids' TV.

If you love Firefly, you will love this. Although Firefly's characters are more lovable, Dark Matter's characters are more interesting. Dark Matter has better effects, production value and plots but you will grow to love the characters as much as Firefly's characters.I didn't get into this show when it first came out in 2015, because the first episode implied a dour, serious and depressing sci fi show. Thankfully this time around I believed the IMDB ratings and sat through the first few episodes. After establishing the back stories and the world, Dark Matter starts to shine with gripping twists and plots that make you come back for more.Much of the time watching it, I think to myself how thankful there are 3 seasons because the episodes are so great. It's the Firefly we could have had, the Firefly we deserve.

As with almost all sci-fi series, the plot lines can often be anticipated, Although this does not take take away from the series. I was hooked after the third episode in the first season. Character development is generally very good, particularly when the crew faces a moral dilemma. Acting is solid, with Zoie Palmer, as the android, being a stand-out.
