Highly Overrated But Still Good

This is one of the few movies I've ever seen where the whole audience broke into spontaneous, loud applause a third of the way in.
Hayden Kane
There is, somehow, an interesting story here, as well as some good acting. There are also some good scenes
Kaelan Mccaffrey
Like the great film, it's made with a great deal of visible affection both in front of and behind the camera.

Dallas couldn't have asked for a better start for its reboot that takes place decades after the first series ended. The next generation of Ewings face off over the Ewing fortunes and Southfork. The plot and story lines for John Ross, Christopher, JR and Bobby were mesmerizing and captivating, it was easy to get hooked. With interesting plots and business dealings Dallas never ceased to entertain. John Ross and Christopher were excellent in picking up the Mantle from the previous generation. After the first season ratings and reviews were high and this was my favorite modern TV show. Sadly Season 2 started to take a downward spiral towards the end and Season 3 followed that trend. After Larry's passing the producers panicked and couldn't continue delivering the stellar work they did in season 1. Dallas could have certainly done with formidable villains. Cliff should have never gone so evil like he did in Season 2 but remained an untrustworthy character, the Barnes and Ewing feud has been milked enough. They needed a new adversary and when they tried to do this with Travino it was badly done and hugely disappointing. Not to mention the unwanted Mexico connection. Dallas has a great history and the new creators often forget that. Once the dust settled after season 1 people would see the inconsistencies and errors. Didn't JR have more than one child, what happened to his other children? Why do we never see other family members much? When Ray and Lucy showed up they were always paired together for some odd reason and had little screen time. Having said all that the show was not so bad and didn't deserve to be cancelled. Ratings are far worse for other shows on the air. I think things may have turned around with John Ross making an evil transformation into JR. Sadly we will never find out.

Dallas is a great television series with well written story lines and a very talented cast. This show will certainly not have the same legacy that the original Dallas (which this is a continuation of) will have,I think the stories played it way too safe and didn't have anything groundbreaking or unique like the original did with episodes such as Who Shot Jr.,it was a bit too formulaic and didn't want to take any risks. The cast that appeared in the original series are certainly the highlight, particularly Patrick Duffy and of course Larry Hagman, who is sadly only in 17 episodes as he passed away in late 2012,but he ended his career playing his most iconic role,JR. Ewing, and he will always be remembered for his outstanding dramatic acting, may he rest in peace. Some of the new cast are also very professional and seem very aware of the type of acting they needed to portray in order to play Ewings,Jesse Metcalfe,Jordana Brewster and Brenda Strong do a great job,but Josh Henderson stands out the most as he becomes the new JR and is as ruthless as his father ever was.Three seasons is plenty and the series didn't thrill me enough to want any more, but I was interested enough to watch till the end and I think maybe a movie to tie up loose ends and finish up Dallas in its entirety would be great. Its an easy to watch drama that is thrilling at times,I never watched the original series but I feel fans of it will likely enjoy and Dallas is worth a watch. The next generation of the Ewing family begin to show the same greed and ruthlessness as their relatives as they fight for power and land. Best Performance: Larry Hagman Worst Performance: Judith Light

Spoilers! This is directed to the producers & network.I have always loved Dallas since the first episode in 1978. The networks wasted 2 decades of opportunity from the original actors on this show. They ruined the original series by allowing Hagman and Katzman to turn the program into a swimsuit model playground for themselves; eliminating all the older talented personalities who were the core favorites. Just look at the rating drops when those core characters left.We were happy to have Dallas back again but they turned this series into el Mexicana to attract the latino viewers and lost the core fans. Never PO dedicated fans by trying to grab another brass ring because you will end up losing the entire series over stupid decisions. We fans have long memories and so do our descendants. If you want to go this route by overwhelming the show with Cartels and latino's; then create a new series, name it "Cartel" and move this entire mess into that spin off. Then you can cater to the latino audience and cartel themes all you want.Restore Dallas to what it was for the fans, not the whining's of critics who are not going to watch no matter how many concessions you make. You will only drive away your audience. Always focus on the original fanbase because our children, descendants, relatives & friends are also fans. This new Dallas was missing all the core fan scenes. The family interpersonal moments at breakfast, dinner, cocktail hour, pool & bedrooms. The luxury clothes, jewels and cars we expect millionaires to have. Intimate lunches and dinners with family and business execs. The Oil barons club and Oil Barons ball (Energy Barons) and Southfork barbecue's. Those were the things that made Dallas great. The family togetherness and interaction were the money moments for original fans. NOT Sex, battles, drugs, revenge or Mexican cartels. The original fans will still be around for another 20 years. Don't cater to neophytes who try to trash everything we loved. You blew it just like I predicted! It was clear your writers were clueless about the original series. This series could have made it without JR & without setting up Cliff. BTW, someone needed to carpet Southfork. The hardwood floors were awful on the sound. Also, better furnishings for a millionaires home. You also should have gotten rid of John Ross's obsession with the oil under Southfork. That theme was beaten to death ad nauseum. You needed writers who actually knew the original series and would know that Miss Ellie and Clayton signed over Southfork to Bobby while they were alive. Therefore, miss Ellie could not have Willed any portion of Southfork to anyone else, because she no longer owned it. Nor would Bobby do the dumb conservatorship at the beginning of the 2012 series. These terrible writers were clearly clueless about the original series.Remember Lucas (Bobby's son) being raised by Ray. Ray, Lucas and Lucy are an untapped goldmine who should have bigger roles. Not Jenna Wade. We had more than enough of her the first 3 times. We still remember Callie's child. John Ross should not be surprised to find he has other siblings but don't bring back James. You also went overboard with Cliff and made him completely unbearable instead of a victim. He became an irrational raving psycho and completely unpalatable. Emma is also totally expendable as was Christopher who has always been a bad character since he was a child. He should remain dead.Eliminate Elena as well. Also, get rid of Tracy. That was a trash character to begin with. Bring back the April Steven's character with Bobby's daughter as having survived the assassination injured with amnesia until now. Bobby's marriage to Ann would be invalid & would add a new adult child of Bobby's. Do not bring back Afton Cooper anymore. Enough of her singing & vicious attitude. Not Valene or Gary either. However, Callie would be interesting to bring back.It is the vulnerability of the bad guys which make them popular. Nonstop obsessive hate themes are very unappetizing as are weak characters constantly drowning themselves in booze, drugs or self pity.Seeing characters overcoming their problems and achieving confidence and success that makes them appealing.John Ross was best as a loving partner to Pamela working together. Have Pamela carrying John Ross's twins. Boy and girl growing up competing for power. Not the blind hate and vengeance. It is unnecessary to have cheating for their characters to be interesting. Remember when JR was at home with his wings clipped trying to be a good husband to Sue Ellen? Or Sue Ellen as a strong, successful business woman JR appreciated? Those were platinum moments in television. It was also stupid for Elena and Drew to wreak vengeance on the other Ewings based on something JR did. Senseless revenge on people who did them no harm is a bad theme.Your money characters are Pamela, John Ross, Sue Ellen (strong, without the drinking), Ryland Harris and his mother (as a ruthless businesswoman without the prostitution & drug themes as you did on the finale). Bobby needs better scripts showing him decent & smart with integrity as family head protecting Southfork as his mother did.The Ewing company needs to get back to green Energy issues. These Alaskan obsessions are ridiculous and empty. We are sick of the Cartel theme. This show is about the Ewing family, not Mexico. Don't destroy a series by pandering to loudmouth jerks who wouldn't watch no matter what you did. You only spoil it for everyone else. Also, find some new background music. Don't go with C&W either. Dallas was a yuppie show. Not a hick show.
