This is one of the few movies I've ever seen where the whole audience broke into spontaneous, loud applause a third of the way in.

It’s sentimental, ridiculously long and only occasionally funny

This is a hidden gem from the BBC. It is easy to watch with some very random bizarre and well thought out plots. There was a change in cast of some of the main characters in the show after season 1 which I think was for the best as it only gets better. Best to read as little about it and start watching.

The first season is excellent. The chemistry is great between all the cast members but after losing half the cast season two and three go off the rails in chemistry and writing. They ruin the whole premise of the show. The first season is a great funny series that works well and they should have left it at that. Instead they tried to create some off the wall story line where Cuckoo's son of some island girl comes back as a type of shaolin monk who falls in love with his step mother. Its too disturbing and not really funny. You may get a few chuckles here and there but over all its DOA. I thought it an American thing to try to keep a dead story going way past its sell by date but the brits have shown they can screw up a good thing as well as the US.

On the advice of a couple of reviews, I watched beyond episode 2 and agree that it is all upwards from the pilot. I got a few chuckles and the plot progressed. I desperately wanted to rate this show higher because of one negative rating regarding Adam Samberg's Semitic background. I saw a few episodes of Brooklyn99 and while I enjoyed it I found that it was the supporting cast and his foil to that that I liked and here there just isn't such a foil. Greg Davis always made me laugh in the Inbetweeners and I delight in spotting him in other shows, but I don't honestly think he or Samberg can carry a show and the script isn't quite strong enough to pull it off. For comparison I found it slightly less funny than season 2 of Todd Margaret - I chuckled at it on Netflix but probably wouldn't buy it or watch it again

I like Greg Davies, as a comedian and as a writer. Andy Samberg has had me cracking up on a few occasions too. However "Cuckoo" is a sitcom about a family full of cretinous tw*ts, that half-heartedly welcome another massive tw*t into fold, and what ensues is bland, over-safe, witless albeit irritating character driven comedy. "Cuckoo" started in 2012 and went on for 3 series. There are no critic reviews on IMDb, apart from "Samberg is very very funny" (Daily Mail) and "Barnstorming turn from Greg Davis" (Metro) found in the picture of the DVD cover. I discovered it via BBC iPlayer in 2015 and I am not impressed, nor am I laughing. But it's not the end of the world - I think everyone involved has gone on to do much better things. It would be tragic not to.
