Great story, amazing characters, superb action, enthralling cinematography. Yes, this is something I am glad I spent money on.

A clunky actioner with a handful of cool moments.

Coppelions are genetically modified humans that can withstand the nuclear radiation created by a power plant disaster which made Tokyo too toxic to live in. Years after the disaster, three high school aged female Coppelions are sent to the now abandoned city to look for survivors. The three young women have to deal with many dangers and personal issues during this 13 episode series.
Now for the review:
1) Everything, but the Coppelions, is well drawn. Obviously the animators wanted the Coppelions to look different then regular humans. However, the Coppelions look as if the animators had missed the final step of adding color to the Coppelions face and skin. This makes the character drawings appear incomplete.
2) The English dub and music is good.
3) The characters are likable and interesting, but...it's frustrating to watch them at times doing things so obviously stupid that it needlessly puts their lives and/or the lives of people they are trying to save, in danger.
4) The story occasionally has irritating flaws in logic. In one instance, a Coppelion uses a superhuman power to escape the villain trying to kill her, but instead of continuing to use this power to help her escape, she doesn't and uses regular old physical exertion which allows the villain to catch up.
In the end, if you can overlook the flaws, Coppelion has enough positive points to make it worth watching.

Before I get into the review just to be clear this anime is NOT a PG due to strong language, mature themes and partial nudity. I don't know why IMDB gave it a PG also why only a score of 6.2 out of 10? Come on IMDB we can do better than this. Coppelion is about these 3 girl by the name of Ibara Naruse (the beautiful leader who is an expert at using weapons), Taeko Nomura (the smart and pretty and who is good at first aid and training animals and Aoi Fukasaku (the cute and cuddly one) who were dispatched from The Self Defense Force. These girls are known by the name Coppelion. These girls are looking for human survives who are wearing hazmat suits but unlike the humans these girls can survive the contamination. To The Self Defense Force these girls are nothing more than just living doll given missions and assignments to do, but in the outside world these girls are real humans then just doll who take orders. However, they aren't the only Coppelion. We are introduced to characters like Haura Kurosawa the only male Coppelion who is an expert in weapons and first aid. For example in episode 7 when Ibara had a shrapnel go into her gut which caused her to lose lots of blood, Hauruto knew the procedure on how to remove it. '''Warning a head though'' we might see a bit of mouth to mouth with Haruto and Ibara. But unlike the other 3 girls Haruto doesn't care about other humans he only cares about his own team and aids to them first. This does change later on the series. We are also introduced to the Ozu sister who are Shion and Kannon. Along with Haruto they are assigned to the clean up crew. However, when they betray Haruto the First Division thing start to change in a horrible way. Shion has enhanced strength to lift up heavy obstacles and Kannon has the ability to shots lighting from her hands. The girls later on find a group who are with a pregnant woman called Ibuki and her father who wants who wants his daughters children to come out successful but things become a whole mess when the husband of the daughter is actually a member of The First Division and it is up to Haruto, Ibara and Aoi to get the husband from the first Division and the Ozu sisters meanwhile Taeko is going to deliver the babies. I won't spoil anymore of the plot but we will learn more about Aoi and her powers, witness a sacrifice and see redemption as the show goes along. These review is based off the English Dub of the series as whenever I watch anime it is always in dub because I hate reading subtitles and watching at the same time and I find it ridiculous that people on the internet compare a Japanese voice and an English voice when they are both different languages. As for the voice acting it was incredible especially the voice chemistry between Erica Lindback, Cassandra Lee Morris, Shelby Lindsey, Charami Leigh, Sarah Anne Williams and Max Mittelman. Not forgetting Kaiji Tang, Richard Epcar, Jamieson Price, Barbara Goodson, Spike Spencer, Sean Chiplock, Marc Diarson and Keith Silverstein. You could even tell that the voice actors really enjoyed themselves. The only episode I did not like of the series was episode 3 or 4 I can't remember which one because I took long breaks after each episodes. Due to real life issues I was having like exams which postponed me to watch each episode. If I remember correctly that episode was about a father who married a woman. This woman was holding his daughter hostage and I just didn't like how the episode went (not going to spoil anything). The art style, animation and character designs were very good and had a lot of effort put in them. However I didn't get this trend of if not all but majority of each beautiful female character (excluding Granny Ayume and Kanon Ozu) having black hair and black eyes. I understand the Coppelions having it but I just didn't like the overuse of it. Other then that I would say this show is worth the watch especially since it has an amazing plot with a solid conclusion, likeable characters and a memorable intro. The end credits music from episode 1-12 can be a bit terrifying though but not a huge problem,Overall, if you want an anime which focuses on a contaminated Japan and showing what friendship and teamwork. Then I would give it a go.

In the near future a meltdown at a nuclear power plant leaves the city of Tokyo uninhabitable and it is evacuated. Twenty years later a distress signal is received; somebody is still in the city. After the disaster a group of genetically engineered children known as Coppelion were created; they aren't affected by the radiation so can enter the city. Three of them; Ibara Naruse, the leader; Aoi Fukasaku and Taeko Nomura are flown in and begin to search for survivors. They find a group, including a heavily pregnant woman and prepare to evacuate them… it won't be easy though as they aren't the only people in the city; a group of soldiers was trapped there and seem to have gone insane; they are determined that the girls mission will fail, there are also two Coppelions, twin sisters Kanon and Shion Ozu who despise humanity for the way they are being used. It won't be easy for the three protagonists to complete their mission. This series was a bit of a surprise… in a good way. There are plenty of series with female protagonists and often that is an excuse for plenty of fan service; thankfully that is not the case here. I don't mind the occasional bit but it would have been inappropriate here given the fairly grim setting. The animators did a great job of capturing the look of the abandoned city with rust and decay in almost every shot. The characters were good too; they may have been genetically engineered in a way that gave them superhuman powers as well as being radiation-proof but they were still human with the emotions and fears that go with that. The story itself seemed to move along at a good pace despite the fact that the action only covers a few days. The conclusion is dealt with well, featuring sacrifice and redemption and neither dragging nor feeling rushed. The biggest surprise is of course the subject given that it isn't that long since the disaster at the Fukushima nuclear plant. Overall I'd say this series is well worth watching. These comments are based on watching the series in Japanese with English subtitles.
