Good movie, but best of all time? Hardly . . .

There is, somehow, an interesting story here, as well as some good acting. There are also some good scenes

By the time the dramatic fireworks start popping off, each one feels earned.

After Keifer Sutherland this whispering dialogue is terrible.

It's pretty good, good story, good drama. I liked most of the fact that it was only six episodes per season. Maybe first season was slightly better but second one was good too

I'll admit up front I usually do not like dark, overly graphic and sadistic stories. Despite that I did enjoy the first series of Cardinal for the stories within the main story. Series 2 was a disappointment. I thought most of the elements of the story were predictable. It again depicts very sadistic, graphic violence. I was suspicious of one of the characters almost from his first scene so I wasn't at all surprised when that character turned out to be corrupt. I saw the ending coming from the 2nd episode. The reason for some of the underlying sub-plot seemed unplausible to me. Not that it couldn't happen but that it would create the tension and amount of cloak and dagger behavior. I know there's a 3rd series coming. Not sure if I'll be on board. Possibly I'll be over my disappointment by then. I do like the two lead characters but I don't understand why the author or in this case the screenwriter hasn't included more dialogue between the two of them. Can they ride together and never really talk or open up about something?

I found "Cardinal" streaming on Hulu and started watching it because I've been a fan of Billy Campbell's ever since he did "The Rocketeer". And what you get here in addition to "Billy" is a crackling good, crime-detective serial killer drama that was WAY better than I expected. It is graphic, and gruesome but don't let that deter you from watching the first season of 6 episodes. I liked the "subplots" involving the family life of both Detectives on the case in addition to the crime story. Billy Campbell is not really a "tough guy" here. He's more of a "beaten down by the world, loads of troubles, tortured soul" kind of guy but he's relentless & brilliant as an investigator. The pairing of these two characters reminded me of the superb Danish crime series "The Bridge". If you enjoy Nordic Noir, crime shows--you will like this series.
