Boston Public Audience Reviews

Cathardincu Surprisingly incoherent and boring
VividSimon Simply Perfect
BelSports This is a coming of age storyline that you've seen in one form or another for decades. It takes a truly unique voice to make yet another one worth watching.
Bumpy Chip It’s not bad or unwatchable but despite the amplitude of the spectacle, the end result is underwhelming.
acrimmins This series takes a pro-teacher attitude, showing us as we are: diverse, flawed, passionate about learning, student-centered and student-stymied. Challenges to teachers, administrators and students are true-to-life. A strong ensemble cast demonstrates the joys and frustrations of a career in education. I know each one of these teachers and have worked with them. At times I have been each one: discouraged, uplifted, supported, disappointed, competent, unable to cope, in control, self-doubting, on top of it, ground under it all. I know these kids and their parents. The show where Michael Rappaport's character tries to deal with feelings aroused in students by use of the "N" word was the finest television drama I have ever seen. I miss Boston Public.
mik man Hi!BP is a great show and has a tone of seriousness that is bold and open. The old male teacher (Finkelhof!?) is a crazy but heart warming guy. men heart goes to the principle, though captured in a giant body he is warm and gentle within as a man of the cloth, well done! The kids do their part with fire and seriousnes that is chocking in a very good way. Now,the signature/soundtrack music in BP is also outstanding! Does anyone know the composers name of at least the signature? That would be very helpful, I hope someone can help me.Kind regards and thank you for your help MikMan
drpiano There have been some very compelling movies and television shows that feature education, and especially the student experience over the years. "To Sir with Love" was a fine motion picture, as an example. "Blackboard Jungle" is a classic. "Mr. Novak" was a high quality television show that made a statement appropriate to the times. Boston Public, however, is the finest depiction of the world of education ever presented. The difference is that this program looks at the angst of youth in a changing world through the eyes of teachers. There have been moments of great mirth--like when Harvey Lipshulz claimed to be George Washington reborn--Cleopatra in an even earlier life. Another gem was when this great actor, Fyvush Finkel, gave an over the top speech about teaching, ending about how he'd toss bombs at enemies. Can't forget when "Harvey" waltzed into Steven Harper's office in boxers--his trousers were hanging from a tree. Other times, I've melted into tears. There was the time that actress Jeri Ryan seemed to implode inward when a brilliant young student with ADD--a gifted musician--lost his life in a car crash.Loretta Devine is just that--divine. When she, along with Sharon Leal and Rashida Jones break into song; wow... A thousand times wow.Let us not forget Nicky Katt's Harry Senate. If all teachers were this devoted. And the utterly charming Jessica Gilsig. I think I'm in love. The real key to this extraordinary television show was Chi McBride's Steven Harper, interacting with Anthony Heald's Scott Guber. Moments like these are as rare as hen teeth anywhere; television, motion pictures, legitimate theater. If the powers that be were on their toes, they would revive this show in a year or two. Let us see Winslow High further down the road.Kudos to the WE network for bringing Boston Public back. At the top I wrote that Boston Public is the best show of its kind ever. Well, it's more than that. It's the best television show of all time.
John You'll hear a lot of people complain about Boston Public, calling it stupid or contrived or even sappy. But the sad fact is, it's main failing is that it addresses serious topics for an audience that would rather watch Queer Eye for the Straight Guy. People don't want socially relevant television ... they want South Park entertainment.Well, it IS a great show. The character development is done with finely tuned precision, making one often forget that they are watching and not actually "there". The people on the show meld into their roles so well that it makes me shudder to think back to High School. But one thing this show does NOT do is make me want to be a teacher.
