bookscatsetc Altho it had its flaws (as usual to "reality" TV), the first season did have some good moments and wasn't always so obviously scripted, and the stars weren't such over the top ugly American cliches. The second season is a disaster of awfulness. It plays like a geriatric Jackass.
Hammer Time My mother - who's the same age as the people in this show - has been telling me how she's been enjoying it and always looked forward to watching it every week.I never paid much attention and dismissed this simply as a show that targeted her demographic - mainly her age - plus she's always been a William Shatner fan, ever since the Star Trek days. It surely can't be for someone like me.Yet by chance I saw the first the episode on a re-run, and could not stop laughing my head off. The show transcends various age groups. Proof that genuine funny is funny no matter how old you are. After watching and being hooked on the first episode, I now eagerly await for the next episode. And will look forward to season 2.My suggestion, you don't have to be a fan of the people in it to enjoy this show. Give it a try and I bet you'll be glad you did.
Ed-Shullivan Actor/comedian Jeff Dye is the 33 year old tour guide hosting the over the hill gang comprised of the famous sports celebrities former NFL Pittsburg Steeler Hall of Fame quarterback (age 68) Terry Bradshaw, former heavyweight boxing champion (age 67) George Foreman, star of the comedy TV series Happy days as the Fonz (age 70) Henry Winkler, and last but not least the Canadian actor, and Captain of the Starship Enterprise as Captain James T. Kirk (age 85) William Shatner.Although the show seems more than just a little bit scripted the underlying message is for all of us to not take our lives too seriously as life is just too short not to just try almost anything, get out there and see the world, and have a hoot! And that is exactly what these guys do, they let loose and have a ball. So these four senior citizens are guided to four (4) countries, Japan, South Korea, China and Thailand and to six (6) cities, Tokyo, Kyoto, Seoul, Phuket, Hong Kong and Chaing Mai where they experience the native cultures and foods of the world. Shatner is presented not only as the elder statesman of the group (at a young age of 85) but as their professor of learning. Henry Winkler seems to be the cool guy ('Ehhh remember The Fonz?) who dances up a storm and claims to be the King of the Jungle. George will eat just about anything put in front of him and believe me some of the food is revolting. Then there is Terry who plays the class clown who just wants to have a great time as all boys do. Oh yeah and he decides to get his first tattoo as well. Jeff Dye is the least known but as their tour guide he is happy to narrate some of the show and explain to the audience when certain things are definitely a set-up to freak out these four guys.We also get a few glimpses of inside the minds of these four celebrities as they describe their past lives in their own words and how it relates to this experience travelling as a group of five guys letting loose. And loose is what you have to be even if the boys know the camera is following them. This is a TV series I will purchase when it comes out on DVD if for nothing else than what I can only imagine will be the best TV bloopers ever which were left on the editors floor due to time constraints and/or not ready for prime time viewing. It is a great series for fans of these legends of sports and TV as we see them travel the world and live different cultures, eat different foods, and make complete a##es of themselves. They definitely showed humility to their audience throughout the series so far.I give Better Late Than Never **** out of **** stars.
maarsebar For those of us who could never afford to travel in these countries. It is so wonderful to see these countries, the people who live there and also the way they live., ( things we would see in magazines) . It is fantastic to see the way you all interact with the people and animals ... All of you made me jump at times. Laugh at times, I even cried. Please keep up the great work. I also need to ask you to be a little more careful. I would really hate for either of you to get seriously hurt. Cannot wait to see more. Thank you all again for the fantastic show. Love it. You all do a fantastic job of being friends and enjoying your surrounding, also experiencing new things together really helps your audience experience the new things too. Love it once again ..you made my heart flutter.
