Blueghost I watched the first few seasons of Becker. I saw the premier, and then took in the rest of the first few seasons. I lost interest thereafter for some reason.Becker regards a man who sees only the negative, but ironically enough, lives a happy life in spite of his negativity and cantankerous outlook on things. Most of his observations on life are, from my point of view, fairly spot on. In this way Becker is my hero. But Becker can be abrasive because of his pessimism. Yet, even for all of his self inflicted jabs that he blames on the world, he has a heart of gold, and is willing and able to help people wherever and whenever. He is, after-all, a man of science, and a trained medical doctor.A single man who practices medicine, Becker perhaps reflects the middle aged single male whose life is pervaded by negativity because of his lack of female companionship. That's kind of the larger theme. Even so Becker manages a way to carry on.His embittered outlook is always tempered by his kindness and need to help others. It's innate in him. It's part of his genetic makeup. It's who he is, and what he is made of. His embittered outlook is surely his own perception, but it does not reflect his true nature; a man of good.That, and he's funny. His outrage at the world and its various foibles and shortcomings is what makes him likable and endearing, because people know he's just venting for lack of something to fulfill his life. That is the other part of the Becker equation.Check out a rerun, or rent the DVD if your interested. I think Becker caters to a certain kind of mindset and person, but you may find yourself liking him in spite of yourself.Enjoy.

studioAT Becker is a consistently funny sitcom that does not rely on big story lines or love triangles in order to keep the audience laughing. Instead it is a character based at times ensemble piece where the laughs come from the characters and their situations which is refreshing.Although it is Ted Dansons show all the other characters have their moments and can be relied upon to have a great deadpan line in every episode. The characters interaction with Becker is also strong and it doesn't always feel like it's all centred around Danson. The great Terry Farrell was the strongest supporting character in the first four seasons but Shawnee Smith and Hattie Winston take up some of the slack after her departure.Overall this is a great,not often recognised comedy gem that sadly never made it's mark on UK audiences.

kclambeth this is a good programme to watch; it's not one of the best but it's definitely above average in sitcomland.John Becker (great Ted Danson) is a surly Doctor who lives in the bronx, thinks he knows everything and hates just about everything about the world, especially the rudeness of everyday people (Amen brother) With John as the central character, the other cast members work well with him. Reggie in the diner was better than Chris, her way of putting herself down for owning a shabby diner and not realizing her life's dreams earlier is very realistic. Linda is great as John's receptionist, not that she does a lot of work! Margaret, John's nurse and receptionist knows just how to handle John even though she has her own problems with her husband, the never seen Lewis. Bob is funny at times, also a little annoying but way better than Hector. Jake is my least favourite, mainly because he never has anything to do except be blind.The story lines are good, i especially like when John has a glimmer of hope about the goodness of people and then by the end of the episode, he is proved right by the decline of civilization.Certain episodes are a bit boring and a bit repetitive but most are worth watching and have quite a few laughs. i'm a big fan of ted danson and think John Becker is a great character. He's a tight fisted old miser but you know he has a heart in there somewhere and that's why he's so easy to watch.

normanlk99 I am not one who normally watches television, let alone a particular show, but, Becker IS the only show I record on my digital video recorder so I can watch it at my earliest convenience. Often times, I will watch it more than once because I enjoy it so much. My girlfriend and I sometimes watch it together, but she is not as loyal to Becker as I am. She says I am already like Dr. John Becker, and laughs about it as she says it. I am not sure if she finds the show more entertaining, or the similarities between him and me more entertaining. I only wish I had known about the show earlier. I had never heard of it (or seen it) until September of 2005 after I came off the road driving OTR. Becker IS the best TV show... EVER! I watch it religiously and am always guaranteed many good laughs! Enjoy it, too, and watch it!
