One of the most extraordinary films you will see this year. Take that as you want.

True to its essence, the characters remain on the same line and manage to entertain the viewer, each highlighting their own distinctive qualities or touches.

NaivetyNaivetySpoilers ahead, although much of it you would get even from just the first episode. So I think Vince Gilligan and David Shore looked at Twin Peaks and decided they wanted to make a series in a similar sort of off beat view, just a fairly different beat. So there is an FBI agent, like Cooper in being somewhat eccentric but in a uch more conventional way. Tall Agent Milt Chamberlin (!) is very successful, in a way that no one seems to be able to understand. Witnesses and suspects respond to his straightforward decency. He has been successful in a posting in Detroit. But no one like that, so very decent and so very successful, is going to be able to progress without making enemies, and Chamberlin has made powerful enemies, including but not limited to his former boss (it is not clear yet how powerful the other are). But Chamberlin shows signs of humanity despite his otherworldly decency. He has to psych himself up to smile when being introduced to his new posting as the resident agent in Battle Creek. He agrees with a Battle Creek cop that no cop could be as naïve as he is and survive.Speaking of which, Dean Winters is Josh Dumel (sp?)'s antagonist on the Battle Creek police force, the one who uttered the line about naivety. WInters - Russ Agnew on the show, is an interesting contrast to Chamberlin. He is a good detective, who seems to solve most of his (straightforward) cases even if he doesn't always put the bad guy in jail. He is used to working with lackluster co-workers and substandard equipment. He is quick to judge and verbal about his judgements, but he is still willing to concede when he is wrong and basically a decent guy. He is often off-putting though when he meets new people and distant from those he works with. And as of episode five, Chamberlin still annoys the hell out of him. And despite the fact Chamberlin says he never lies, he admits he has lied to Agnew (Agnew makes no bones about lying to everyone). And what did Chamberlin do to get sent to Battle Creek, and who sent hi? So small town cops plus big city FBI, like Twin Peaks but not like Twin Peaks. I think it should have done better, gone for a seven season run instead of a half season. Worth a look.

I just saw Ep1. A cop in Battle Creek is under funded and unappreciated. His dept is over stretched. Instead of new resources his building gets an FBI agent who is the cool clean hero with more media presence. The 2 guys with their different styles deal with unoriginal story lines but America wins in the end and perhaps Battle Creek MI shines a tiny bit brighter.unfortunately the script is unoriginal and the women are characatures (or maybe the acting sucks). They are either 'doe eyed secretary' or 'ambitious bitch'It can't compare with Homeland, How to get away with Murder or any of the shows with women I like. I'm a woman and I'm going to spend my TV time watching show about women. Vera Drake, Scott & Bailey. The more I think about it the more shocked I am that for generations male characters have taken centre stage. Women are more complex, do more work, lead more interesting lives but perhaps male writers don't know the complexities of women.

This show makes me laugh. It fills a role in that it is unique enough & attracts an audience that hates those shows with the fake laugh track that aren't even funny. My husband and I look forward to it every week. They are doing a good job of developing the characters. I think it is on too late; not for me but it is light hearted and should come on earlier. I really hope CBS keeps it going & gives it a chance. We hardly watch any TV shows. We watch mostly sports on TV as most shows are not entertaining like this one. The stories are quite creative and downright corny. I mean corny in a good way. TV needs this show to continue. Battle Creek needs more advertising to attract the right viewers.

Battle Creek is a hard show to place. Is it a comedy, is it a drama or is it a procedural cop show? It's a little bit of everything. And it definitely has some flair to it. It's also still refreshing to see a cop show that doesn't take place in a major city, but in a smaller town. The premise of the show is easily it's strongest point. The underfunded police of Battle Creek gets support from the tech-smart FBI. Add two completely different characters in the mix and it seems you might have a nice buddy-cop-drama. Nothing of that all the characters of Josh Duhamel (FBI-agent Milt Chamberlain) and Dean Winters (detective Russ Agnew) are constantly trying to out do each other. Especially Agnew who sees the arrival of Chamberlain as a treat to his environment tries to outsmart the FBI. The acting from both Winters and Duhamel are right on the spot. You also don't really feel like choosing sides since both Agnew and Chamberlain are likable guys. The other cast members are more often then not fillers and the comedic relief. Only Aubrey Dollar stands out as Holly Dale, the only who's able to keep Agnew on the straight path. It helps that she serves as the potential love interest of Agnew. The stories are once again, like the show fresh. It's easy to write stories about mobsters or rival gangs. But did we ever see a crime- story about a maple syrup-gang. Or that the house of the captain goes up in flames in the first few episodes. Not much shows try to pull that off. Does it have some minus-points? Well perhaps not all of the supporting characters are that great. I already mentioned Aubrey Dollar, she's great. And both Kal Penn and Grapevine are a good add to the mix. But the characters of Liza Lapira and Damon Herriman still feel a bit flat. Maybe they get worked out better in the future. But for now I feel like they are holding the show a bit back to step it up just a notch. I gave the show a chance. I think anyone who's look for a fresh new cop-show mixed with a bit a drama and comedy should watch this. So to end with the question I start what genre is it? It's created a new own genre: a battle creek.
