Captivating movie !

The story, direction, characters, and writing/dialogue is akin to taking a tranquilizer shot to the neck, but everything else was so well done.

It's a good bad... and worth a popcorn matinée. While it's easy to lament what could have been...

It’s sentimental, ridiculously long and only occasionally funny

As of writing Jan 2017 I binge watched the whole 1st season on Netflix UK *before* I found out it was already cancelled, which is a great pity. It was getting into its' 'stride' and the characters were becoming fixed, the story lines were quirky and the acting was on the whole par excellence. I enjoyed the premise of the grumpy cop with his unusual sidekicks. The character played by Dennis Haysbert has some particularly barbed asides that were blink and you missed them funny. Pity the studio gave up on it so soon, there are sooo many shows dragging on interminably into there double digit seasons way after they lost their mojo....Bones and NCIS to name but 2

So many good series cut short by Fox Exec's, usually thanks to poor scheduling etc.The tragedy is they pick up a proper audience when sold to other countries, or shown on Netflix etc.Backstrom had the potential to be a great TV show (as with most of Fox's canceled shows). I'm just watching on Netflix, and am annoyed to know there probably won't ever be another series.Anyway, the characters were progressing well. As with many first seasons, it takes a few episodes for the characters to develop. Hence why I've only scored it 7. Had the potential to score higher, if Fox actually had confidence in their shows. As it is, the whole world suffers more and more 'reality' show garbage, while TV shows aren't given a chance.

Backstrom is all you need to watch. Grumpy detective, who get into a person and find out with his eyes how he/she is, and how get to any situation. It's starts with a rainy day, red cape and a big cigar. Backstrom looks like he is disinterested of his cases, and love to hunt the suspect, get into their point of view to figure out how they made it. His ex fiancée, let him feel that he could have a change but let him down, when she refused him and tel him about her new boyfriend. His father is a big crag he have to work on it, and by hunting his father he find dirty background of his family. Just kidding, but she should at this point not forget valentine, his roommate, a friendly gay guy who keep his mind up to new ideas. Watch Backstrom, I try not to spoil to much. Enjoy it, you will love it. Who else would miss to watch grumpy detective.

If it wasn't for Rainn Wilson i wouldn't even have gave this show a chance, and although I love him he can't save the bad writing.. it seems like everyone has a love hate relationship with Backstrom and it feels like I'm supposed to believe he has a chip on his shoulder.. but why.. the story, the writing never gives me a reason to believe that anyone should really dislike him, or justify me thinking he has a chip on his shoulder look even in their poster picture it says brilliant detective total dick.. when?? when has he been brilliant, and when has he been a total dick.. hahaha do these writers not know what a total dick is because compared to the dicks i know Backstrom is a gentlemen..if you're going to write a character then do it.. don't half-a$$ it. everyone compares this show to house.. but house gave you a reason every episode to like and dislike him.. Backstrom is neutral.. always. He's not really that rude, not really that misogynistic, not really as dirty as they make him out to be, or as drunk, and he isn't really that brilliant.. he uses a catchy little.. "Im you" saying but he usually does that four or five times an episode before he catches someone and he gathers most of the information from what his team says, he's not coming to any huge conclusions on his own.. nothing that i can't piece together as his team says updates me on the situation.. and I'm not a brilliant detective.. any cop can guess wrong a bunch of times. What makes him brilliant?i will say out of aaaaallllllllllllllll the cop shows i hate.. i hate this one the least.. why are people so interested in stupid cop shows
