American Dreams is an American television drama program broadcast on the NBC television network, produced by Once A Frog and Dick Clark Productions in association with Universal Network Television and NBC Studios. The series was created by Jonathan Prince and developed by Josh Goldstein and Prince; the latter was also one of the executive producers with Dick Clark. It debuted on September 29, 2002. The show is set mostly in Philadelphia. It initially aired on Sundays at 8:00 pm Eastern time, but moved to the same time on Wednesdays from March 9, 2005, to the third season finale. The show tells the story of the Pryor family of Philadelphia during the mid-1960s. Season one takes place in 1963–64, season two in 1964–65, and season three in 1965–66. The show was known as Our Generation when it debuted in Australia, however it was changed back to American Dreams when it returned for the second season. The theme song "Generation" was written and performed by Emerson Hart, lead singer of the band Tonic. The song earned Hart an ASCAP award for Best Theme Song of Television in 2003. The show was the 2003 TV Land Awards "Future Classic" winner.

chaos_bleeds89 I loved this show when it first premiered. It had a great cast, enjoyable characters that were built on a strong foundation, and great story lines. I also loved the music incorporated into the show; it added more spark and was fun to sing along with the characters. I really do not know why they canceled it but I know they made a huge mistake. I liked learning about the 1960s and the family and what they did back then. I was 13 when it first premiered and it was cool to see kids around my age in the show. I would loved if the show went more into the 60's but sadly, we would never get to see it. I recommend this show to anyone who likes the 60's or remembers their childhood.
daysc69 American Dreams is one of my favorite shows. I remember watching it every single Sunday night for the three seasons it was on television. I was engrossed by the story lines and enjoyed seeing the history of the 1960's through the eyes of the characters. The music was by far the best part American Dreams. As a young teenager, 13 years old, I fell in love with the Motown and American Bandstands best songs and now, at 20 still listen to the music. Now that I am older, I can still remember the thrill I felt every week, rushing home from church Sunday nights, to watch the 60's unfold before my eyes. A great family show. I recommend it to anyone interested in learning more about 1960's history as well as those looking for some good oldies music.
oneimaginarygirl Well, i'm from Italy and i finished to see American Dreams few weeks ago (everything arrives slowly here). I'm totally disappointed. It's not a ending, Meg goes with Chris and that's all? And Sam?? And then what happens? Beth and JJ are finally happy? Patty becomes likable or not? I WANT TO KNOW! I've watched it for 2 years, every evening, and i really liked it, the story, Jack and Helen, so different but always together (a sweet dream..), Meg so innocent and ingenuous in a first time (and i liked to see her discovering the reality), and the presumptuous intelligence of Patty, and the black world (i fell in love with Sam), i just loved American Dreams, and what i had to see? A pointless ending. (sorry for the English, i would like to say something more, and in a better way, but i don't know the words)
shellymasterson "American Dreams" is the best show on TV today. I've watched it since the very first episode and look forward to it each week. I've bought the first season on DVD and watched the entire season in less than two months! It's a glimpse into history for me. Being only 29 I did not live through the turbulent '60's, but I've gotten the opportunity to live through it vicariously by watching this show. If you've never seen the show, give it a chance. If you have seen it and love it as I do, please let NBC know so it won't be canceled. It's a good family show. In today's world of reality TV, that's a refreshing change. I hope the show remains on the air for several more season. I'd love to see J.J. have a hand in getting the first man on the moon.
