Info

Will Freeman lives a charmed existence as the ultimate man-child. After writing a hit song, he was granted a life of free time, free love and freedom from financial woes. He's single, unemployed and loving it. So imagine his surprise when Fiona, a needy single mom and her oddly charming 11-year-old son, Marcus, move in next door and disrupt his perfect world. When Marcus begins dropping by his home unannounced, Will's not so sure about being a kid's new best friend, until, of course, Will discovers that women find single dads irresistible. That changes everything and a deal is struck: Marcus will pretend to be Will's son and, in return, Marcus is allowed to chill at Will's house. Before he realizes it, Will starts to enjoy the visits and even finds himself looking out for the kid. In fact, this newfound friendship may very well teach him a thing or two that he never imagined possible - about himself and caring for others.

GamerTab That was an excellent one.
Vashirdfel Simply A Masterpiece
Rosie Searle It's the kind of movie you'll want to see a second time with someone who hasn't seen it yet, to remember what it was like to watch it for the first time.
Fleur Actress is magnificent and exudes a hypnotic screen presence in this affecting drama.
iankenny01 I loved the original film and the soundscore. I find this heart warming and funny. Good acting. I am English so I like the Minnie Driver aspect. But I am wondering if this was ever on English TV? The first episode was like the original. But now it is starting to feel a bit like watching Young Sheldon. I think it is a good twit on Roddie Doyles original book. Not sure how else to compare it to, But it reminds me of another film with Bill Murray. So no spoilers here.
margil-1 It has been so long since I really enjoyed a new show. I have to say I did not watch on NBC , I watched on Netflix. Could not stop and watched all the episodes one after another. The players are great, I love all of them. The story lines are wonderful and teach a lesson which I like too. I hope this continues for a long time . I also hope it does not change in that it becomes too sex oriented. I know Will has jumped into bed with women he knows for a short time, but at least it was not the main part of the show and was not too sexy. I am sick of the low life people shown on most shows. I want to see people with some character and morals who care about each other. Best show so far that I have seen this year. I am behind having missed one season, but looking forward to the premier of season 2.
Movielover Truth I'm one of those that loved the original movie this TV sitcom is based on.Big differences. If it weren't for Will and Andy's characters, this show would be a total flop. The Marcus character just doesn't work. At all. And, Fiona's character is ridiculous. What made the movie dynamic so great is that Fiona, in the movie, looked the part (and acted it). A single mother, with issues (in the movie she was bipolar/manic depressive with suicidal tendencies) and could not hold down/handle a job very well. They lived poorly, and struggled. It was more realistic. The Fiona in the TV is a joke. A single mother can move to San Francisco without a job, afford a nice home, and VERY expensive clothes and jewelry. It's just a TV show, yes, but come on. Designer clothes from head to toe, and every scene a different set of clothes. Covered in jewelry. One big placement ad campaign.Somehow Fiona and Will live next to each other. Will was/is wealthy from royalties. In the movie he lived in another part of town, in a nicer place. In the TV show, they live side by side. What? You cannot tell that one is supposed to be bad off and the other living off of royalties. Will and Andy's relationship is funny, and really helps make the show. Some of the scenes with Andy's kids (and wife) can be very funny. The show pushes Marcus to be much more adult than he is, which doesn't work. And, all of the lines are delivered the same way.Fiona is not projecting anything. Take away her accent, and she would be one boring actor in this slot (as much as I've liked her in the past, sorry, she doesn't even seem to be trying). What is also funny is the original movie only received a 7.1 here on IMDb, while this TV show, with so many shortcomings, received a 7.6 at this point. Perhaps it will go down over time. As far as I've read, it has been renewed by NBC.
mrocco-1 *******This review may contain spoilers*********I'm not a fan of modern day half hour sit-com. Just not my cup of tea in the post Taxi/Cheers/Seinfeld era, which means I don't usually watch them or review them. But I did love the Movie of the same name. What did I love most about it? That the romance was not between the boy's mother and the lovable but slightly misguided man/child. Somehow it made the relationship between the man and the boy more authentic. No ulterior motives involved. Because of my love for the movie I gave this series a try and found I absolutely love it. The entire tone of the show hits me in the right way. I love that these two adults, who could not be more opposite, can develop a relationship that is completely based on their mutual love for Marcus. They often disagree but every now and then one will come to realize the other is right. It is a not too sophomoric but is totally feel good. Is it a 10 compared to an Oscar winning movie? No, but it is an 8 for me when judging as a sit-com in the year 2014. To the reviewer who wrote such blistering criticism towards Minnie Driver, saying how can we possibly buy into the young hot Will ever being with ugly old Fiona, what are you talking about? You are entitled to find her old and ugly (which I don't agree with at all) but there is absolutely no romance set up between these two. That was a big part of the original story. I hope that the writers understand how important that we never go in that direction. It would ruin what I consider the heart of the story...a man being there for a fatherless boy, and a boy helping him grow into a better man.
