You Will Meet a Tall Dark Stranger Audience Reviews

Matialth Good concept, poorly executed.
Sexyloutak Absolutely the worst movie.
AutCuddly Great movie! If you want to be entertained and have a few good laughs, see this movie. The music is also very good,
InformationRap This is one of the few movies I've ever seen where the whole audience broke into spontaneous, loud applause a third of the way in.
Emerenciano Yes, that's it. Is it Allen? Put your hands on it!! I'm not saying I love all his films - and I have seen more than twenty - but I prefer to try, and I hardly ever feel down, when I learn the film I'm about to see is directed by this, that is of of the best moviemakers of all times. "You Will Meet a Tall Dark Stranger" is a sweet piece of art for, as I see it, tells a nice story in a simple - yet beautiful - way. A typical Allen thing. And the cast? Anthony Hopkins, Naomi Watts, Gemma Jones, Antônio Banderas, Josh Brolin .... Don't miss it!
A_Different_Drummer I realize that his many fans feel Allen can do no wrong but this film stands as a mute rebuttal to that point of view. The low rating reflects not necessarily the production values (which are almost perfect even though the film is horrid) but the blow to "media ecology" that the planet must endure when an artiste WHO SHOULD KNOW BETTER wastes talent like it grew on trees. The "magic" here is that somehow Allen coaxed some of the best actors on the planet to give one of the worst performances of their lives.Don't know where to start. Brolin, he of the broad facial testosterone markers, plays a simpering wimp. Watts, who almost never looks lost in a role, acts like she would rather be somewhere else. Hopkins and Bandiaras are playing variants of role they have played many times before, which suggests that, if nothing else, you are better off watching those performances, not these. And the trademark Allen voice-over, an egoistic affectation if ever there was, serves the same role as the Surgeon General's warning on a pack of cigarettes.
vincentlynch-moonoi This film had promise. It has the core of a fine cast -- Antonio Banderas, Josh Brolin, Anthony Hopkins, Gemma Jones, and Naomi Watts. But it sort of meanders along highlighting here and there each member of the ensemble cast, and at the end leaves us up in the air with a conclusion for only one of the cast members (Gemma Jones). Everyone else just drifts off into the sunset and we really don't know how things conclude with them. Hiss, hiss, and boo to Woody Allen. The master -- if he ever really was one -- has lost his magic. At first Gemma Jones' character is too annoying, but ultimately she becomes the one gem of the film. Why exactly would Banderas accept his small role in this film. At least Brolin has some decent screen time, even if you won' like his character much. And Anthony Hopkins...well, not his finest work. As to 2 other members of the cast -- Freida Pinto and Lucy Punch -- no thank you...no desire to see them in another film.Pass this one by.
Chris L You Will Meet a Tall Dark Stranger relies on quite the usual characteristics of a Woody Allen's dramedy: intertwined destinies, twists of fate, etc., always with that sweet-and-sour tone specific to the director. But this time, the different story lines, though relatively pleasant to follow, aren't that productive as the ones of Alfie or Helena. But the strangest thing is that it seems Allen only developed half of the plot and the movie isn't finished at all, an impression evidenced by the abrupt ending that leaves a number of issues pending, such as the stolen book. And that's frustrating because, one can't help but think that these elements, used/arranged differently, could have lead to a whole different movie, much more pertinent, especially as the cast is good, though obviously underexploited.
