Yawn. Poorly Filmed Snooze Fest.

This is a must-see and one of the best documentaries - and films - of this year.

While it doesn't offer any answers, it both thrills and makes you think.

This is one of the best movies I’ve seen in a very long time. You have to go and see this on the big screen.

At first I thought this was going to be the sort of film requiring extra attention on account of being out of the ordinary. It's certainly the latter but I wondered whether the director was deliberately attracting attention by having the whole cast act a bit odd. For 'odd' read 'badly', so many of them were stilted and unconvincing it's as if the budget dictated fifth-stringers only. Then there's the editing. Scenes jump from one to another and within themselves are so unconvincing it detracts from what was a promising script. In small doses you might almost think this was an attempt to portray real life but it's not that at all. It's just bad.I watched it all the way through to see if it improved. It didn't.

There is only one thing wrong with this movie. While the story and acting are both top notch, the title is grossly misleading. In order to draw in the fans of Robert Duvall's "Open Range" and "Lonesome Dove" heroic characters, the producers called it "Wild Horses." A more appropriate title would have been Brokeback 2 or maybe The Gay Rancheros. Once you are inside the theater, the story begins and ends before the ridiculous title is shown, convincing me that the makers felt at least a little guilty. One scene in the movie does show a horse being broken, but it is of no importance or consequence to the story. What we have is actually a whodunit in which the audience is shown immediately who done it. Viewers with no expectations or perhaps unaware of Robert Duvall's "Lonesome Dove" typecasting will enjoy seeing him in the roll of a prejudiced, redneck, grandpa. It is Duvall's disappointed Lonesome Dove fans who were deceived and are unhappy with this flick, and they have every right to feel that way. As for Luciana Duvall, I see nothing to complain about regarding her acting. Once again, I believe that the "cowboy movie" lovers are simply objecting to the idea of a female in the roll of a Texas Ranger. Nothing is perfect, so I give this movie a 9.

What a disappointment this movie is, on so many levels. Even though the story line carries through from beginning to end, the transitions between scenes are so disjointed that we are never sure of just what is happening at any moment. As far as Luciana Pedraza, I'm sure that, as his wife, Duvall loves her very much. However this does not change the fact that she cannot act worth a damn, and forget what viewers have said about her flat and colorless performance being "in character." As far as Duvall himself, the glory days of Godfather, Wrestling Ernest Hemingway (his finest effort), True Confessions and so many others appear to be over. He seems to have become content settling into playing the same crotchety old redneck with the same mannerisms over and over, as in Get Low, Jayne Mansfield's Car, A Night in Old Mexico and The Judge (though the latter is rather a good flick). The story itself is clearly supposed to be a moving one about tragic self-awareness, but the emotionless execution left me very dry-eyed. There is some beautiful cinematography of the midwestern vistas, but that's not enough to redeem the movie. Don't waste your time.

Very disappointing considering the cast involved. Much has been made of the gay theme but this rarely rises to the level of an after school special. Robert Duvall takes credit for the screenplay but I don't know which is worse his writing his direction or his acting which seems phoned in. One character - the woman Texas Ranger wanders in from another movie & I never quite figured out what she was doing there. She didn't seem to know either. There are a lot of Hispanic background actors who take up space as well. Sadly they have very bad accents even when speaking Spanish. I kept waiting for something good to happen some music, some photography maybe some full frontal male nudity with James Franco or Josh Hartnett.
