Wheels of Terror Audience Reviews

Dynamixor The performances transcend the film's tropes, grounding it in characters that feel more complete than this subgenre often produces.
Candida It is neither dumb nor smart enough to be fun, and spends way too much time with its boring human characters.
Staci Frederick Blistering performances.
Scarlet The film never slows down or bores, plunging from one harrowing sequence to the next.
Backlash007 ~Spoiler~ In celebration of Quentin Tarantino's upcoming killer car flick, I decided to check out Wheels of Terror. I had high hopes looking at that cover art. "This could be great" I thought. But I was wrong. There's just no story here. A "hot shot bus driver from L.A." (can you hear me snickering?) moves to podunk county and is terrorized by a black sedan. Alan B. McElroy's script was probably 5 pages. The movie clocks in at 90 minutes, but 87 of those are in SLOW MOTION! This device gets old in record time and you're yawning before you know it. I will say that they could not have picked a better car. I love the look of that machine (a 70's era Dodge Charger I believe). But they screw it up by letting us know there is a person behind the wheel. I wish they would have went with the supernatural element but they let the audience know that driver has an unhealthy passion for little girls. Once the rape factor is revealed, it humanizes the car too much by letting you know there is a disturbed individual behind the wheel. The car is no longer a malevolent being, it's just a car and there is just a guy driving it. This happens in the very beginning so I was let down almost immediately. That's what makes Spielberg's Duel so damn good. The truck in Duel has no motivations. It feels like they were trying that here, but it didn't come close to working. I think because the magic of Duel lies in the suspense. Director Christopher Cain creates NO suspense in this film. I came very near to falling asleep but out of nowhere the car drives off of a hillside and crushes a motorcycle cop (in slo-mo I might add). I haven't had a good belly laugh like that for a while. Then, later, the car careens down a rock quarry only to return to fall for the same trick twice. So, with that, Wheels of Terror is the worst of the killer car sub-genre.
kate1109 Possibly one of the worst movies I've ever seen. I did sit through the whole thing but only because it became so humorous because it was so bad. The acting was god awful. There's no real resolution, just a big explosion. Lame.
gridoon Pretty dull thriller. The director chooses an "arty" approach with lots of slow-motion sequences, "poetic" music and minimal dialogue, and it doesn't work. The characters have no personality, the script is virtually non-existent and the suspense is deflated by the fact that the "evil" car's driver (or the evil car itself) has plenty of opportunities to get away from the heroine who chases him, but keeps returning to do battle with her as if he has some scores to settle (we never find out what they might be). While you're watching this movie, don't be surprised if your mind starts going elsewhere, like into thinking what's for dinner or the next day's chores. (*1/2)
telepinus1525 One of the few movies I saw twice because I couldn't believe how boneheaded it was the first time! One of the things that bug about movies like this is the need to be "ambiguous" without revealing too much about the nature of the threat/killer/monster...all the director managed to do was annoy me with ,"So, what the hell was it?" and not even let know just what the hell "it" was! Unless the car really was possessed. Joanna Cassidy was served better in films like "Roger Rabbit" and "The Package", and was totally wasted here. Take a hint: don't even bother watching this snoozer.
