Welcome to the Punch Audience Reviews

Lumsdal Good , But It Is Overrated By Some
Konterr Brilliant and touching
Portia Hilton Blistering performances.
Guillelmina The film's masterful storytelling did its job. The message was clear. No need to overdo.
Michael Ledo Max (James McAvoy) got shot in the knee by a major league criminal Jacob Sternwood (Mark Strong). Three years later Max's knee still bother's him as does the fact he let one get away. Max teams up with Sarah (Andrea Riseborough) as it appears they may have a second chance at him. In this partnership Max has the brains and Sarah has the kahunas. The film is a bit twisty and it is easy to get lost if you don't pay attention. This is a crime action adventure which has its fair share of drama, enough to slow it up for a breather. The action scenes are spread out to a finale at the OK Corral. It is worth a rental if you are a fan of British crime movies, but not the one you would want to wean yourself on.Parental Guide: F-bomb. No sex or nudity.
allyatherton A criminal is on the run in London and one man wants revenge.Starring James McAvoy and Mark Strong.Written and directed by Eran Creevy. It's hardly a knock-out movie. You can't really fault the action sequences, they do exactly what they say on the tin and James McAvoy steals the show as a police detective in London with a chip on his shoulder the size of a Harley Davidson. But where this movie lost me was in the plot.I was confused 6 minutes in and I was confused an hour later and even when the so called plot was revealed in all it's glory, I was none the wiser. What is the point of any film when you don't have a bloody clue what is going on? The background music didn't help either. It was so loud I think the old woman who lives at the end of my row could have heard it. And she's deaf. Every movie needs light and shade and that's what this lacked. It was all action and not much character development or explanation.I'm giving it a 6 out of 10 just because James McAvoy was in it.
Mischief810 This film is good but not great. But is not bad at all. Mark Strong is at his best and James McEvoy turns in a very good performance as well. You also almost immediately get the sense that Andrea Riseborough in the role of Sarah is a near perfect partner for Max (McEvoy). If you like a lot of shooting, high speed action and plot intrigue in an action thriller, you will have a lot of fun watching. You get a little of each in almost every scene. This is however a lower budget film. There's not a lot of CGI special effects. There are no blockbuster, high-dollar actors here to attract the kind of theater or disc demand to expect that this was going to be a box office smash. Aside from Strong, McEvoy and Riseborough, the acting is good but not great (see my lede). The plot also has a few tiny holes in it but they're not enough to ruin anything. It's just kind of a fun flick to sit down to after dinner and be entertained by a fast-paced action thriller with bullets flying, plot twists (tiny holes and all)and decent acting. If that's what you're looking for, you'll be pleased, and then surprised that this was over before you knew it.
Joe When you look back in film history, there have been numerous great British made thrillers and gangster movies. This missed the boat and will never catch it.What we have is a production with a tick list that has a mark against some notable boxes: good actors, rich settings, interesting lighting, fine directing etc. They forgot though about the screenplay which really is poor. Some clichés, a lot of nonsense and nothing big or clever.James McAvoy really needs to speak to his voice trainer, his accent was appalling. A fine actor reduced to looking out of place here.Apart from one shoot-out in the last quarter, I really don't have anything much good to say of the action which was mostly dull. Some say it is supposedly influenced by Hong Kong gangster work, this doesn't seem to pay off or understand the genre. I've watched lots of those movies, this doesn't cut the mustard. There's no point saying much more about this, just put it to the side and move on. Very disappointing.
