BoomerDT From the era that gave us such memorable and hilarious raunchy comedies like "Animal House" "Airplane" "Caddy Shack" "Stripes" and "Vacation." "Used Cars" never received as much attention as these others, although it still stands up with any of them. UC is a satire of the retail car business, which is a pretty easy mark to make fun of. There are some hilarious bits...various scams that are pulled by the salesmen, outrageous commercials and a great portrayal by Kurt Russell as Rudy Russo,a completely unethical salesman at New Deal Used Cars. Russell never gets the proper credit as one of the great versatile actors of all time. He can do drama, action, romance and here shows off his terrific comedic talents as Rudy Russo has figured his talents would be best served in politics (his motto is "Trust Me") but first he has to come up with a $50K donation to the party to secure his nomination.Rudy works for the laid back Roy Fuchs, content to run his small car lot while across the street his brother Luke has a huge mega car lot. Luke is a complete snake who wants nothing more than to swallow up Roy's business and have the biggest dealership in the valley. The Fuchs Brothers are played by one of the best character actors around, Jack Warden. Luke will stop at nothing and what unfolds is some very funny stuff. Gerritt Graham and Frank McRae are a riot as Rudy's cohorts at New Deal, while Joe Flaherty delivers a top notch performance as Luke's completely sleazy attorney. Really one one complaint in the cast...Deborah Harmon as Roy Fuchs daughter, who inherits the agency. Great looking, limited in her comedic acting range. Would have loved seeing someone like Catherine O'Hara in this part. But if you've never seen this, it's worth checking out!

You got it baby. All I have to do is...you can type a bunch of nonsense and it will be a big success." My husband who is Russian, really likes this movie, and this was his review.But I will elaborate on his evasive mind that wanders in and out of translation. He really liked 'Used Cars'. He is in his late 30's, and only saw it just now, like many immigrants who are trying to live the dream in North America. Now I saw this movie when I was a kid, and my dad rented it, we all had a laugh, and after that, my dad almost bought a car, but we went on Vacation instead. While I'm sure as a kid my husband was enjoying the Black Sea, and a fancy boat ride down the Volga, his impressions on North America would have been forever changed, as he thought everybody over here was shovelling heaps of Gold. He wanted in on the action, and at age 18, somehow made it over here from Russia. So from his point of view, this is one of the 80's movies he missed, and throughly enjoyed. Thank you for a fun movie, my Russian husband liked it. A lot.

EvanHamilton I read the other reviews for "Used Cars", and found each to be positive and supporting this movie. Each user said that it was hilarious.Well, after I saw the feature, I was greatly disappointed, mainly in Robert Zemeckis and Bob Gale for the profane and rather pointless script, and for Speilgerg for actually producing a film like this.--THE GOOD--• The film was funny at times. A few scenes are a bit memorable• The stunts were outstanding• The dog (Toby, played by "Peanuts") is excellent and is the best member of the --THE BAD--• The dog (Toby, played by "Peanuts") is excellent and is the best member of the cast (A dog can do better than Kurt Russell? Watch this film)• EXTREMELY profane movie, with unnecessary nudity and swearing• The film was not edifying in any way• It is an embarrassment to the country of the United StatesI actually don't recommend this movie, unless you really want to see it. It is intended to be a comedy, but will really get only a few laughs out of you. There are two or three scenes that are really funny, but that's it. The movie is 1 hr and 54 minutes long (basically 2 hours), and each funny scene lasts only a minute.Don't let the other reviews fool you, because they already fooled me. The authors of those reviews are most likely great fans who saw the film when it first came out. Well, now, the movie isn't that great. It really is about a 5/10, highest 6.5/10. Not a movie for kids. Not a movie for most people.

elshikh4 The story and the characters are loyal to the cartoons. The atmosphere could allow one visual farce to be on the screen loudly. And the theme of the racing cars was too popular at the time. But despite all of that, the final result was something intolerable, heavy, and foolishly entertaining (read : unfunny !).It's about many sketches of cat and mouse hunt, with few clever ideas here and there, then one big climax through a rally, a hot pursuit, and a dazzling car bounce over a moving train. Actually the end of the 1970s & the start of the 1980s was the era of the champion car (which could occasionally fly) in TV's shows like (The Dukes of Hazzard, Knight Rider, Hardcastle and McCormick) or in movies' series like (Smoky & The Bandit) and (Cannonball Run). Here, it's just a commercial try to keep up with the fashionable mode, to present uproarious finale which harmonizes with the whole movie before it, but the problem is that the whole movie before it wasn't that good in the first place.The characters around the lead (his friends) were silly with lots of gross-out moments, (Gerrit Graham) as the pessimistic guy was bothersome and repugnant, (Jack Warden)'s performance as the evil man was too evil with overstatement that made him too detestable to be in a comedy, the love story was so fabricated, the bad tasting was bad, I couldn't stand the filthy dialog, and the comic situations suffered ridiculous exaggerations, ending up as mostly no comic.(Used Cars) seems initially as a nice child; just like Disney's movies where (Kurt Russell) used to be the lead star short time earlier. However this time, the movie is made to show him as not a kid anymore, but a man, assuring all the time that we aren't in another Disney's well-mannered refined movie. That's why there is abundance of : the (F) word (too many times to a very boring extent), a strip dancing, a lot of insisting references to (Russell)'s sexual affairs.. etc. Let alone the rest of the movie's open vulgarity. Therefore the movie looked eventually like a child but nasty !! It's a comedy, but it runs for too long, with a load of disgusting material. Well, being "Too long" is fatal enough for any comedy if you ask me.
