Themoviejunkiex This is a great movie but I think another prequel should be made, a sequel to Rise of the Lycans. Based on where the movie left off and how Viktor met Selene. The Underworld sequels after evolution were very disappointing. They didnt feel anything like the first two movies or the prequel. I do not know why movie companies ruin movies this way by not keeping the same theme and vibe. When people think vampire movies or want vampire films they want them to be less modern, more medieval, dark, gothic and gloomy. Bring back Michael Sheen as Lucious, he is the best actor with a fully developed character.People do not like new actors and characters. They like the original actors, characters, theme, story line, and complex characters.

Tweekums This film, set several centuries before the original two, tells us the story of Lucian; the first lycan who can take human form. He doesn't start off as a leader of a new race of powerful immortals; instead he and this new type lycan as kept as slaves by the vampires to protect them from the older type of lycan. Not everybody sees them as animals though; Sonja, the daughter of Victor the Vampire King, has fallen in love with Lucian. Lucian may be a slave but he is favoured by Victor… that is until he breaks the rules and leaves the vampire stronghold and removes his restraining collar… something Victor won't forgive even though Lucian did it to save Sonja. With Sonja's help he manages to escape with the other lycan slaves but Victor becomes aware of his daughter's treachery… if Lucian is to save her he will have to return to the vampire stronghold and ultimately face Victor in battle.At first I was a bit unsure about this film because it doesn't feature Selene, the series protagonist, and the fact that we know that certain characters must survive as they feature in films set later. Thankfully it was still gripping and impressively fills in much of the series' mythology. It was interesting to see a lycan as the main character and Michael Sheen did a fine job as Lucian. He is ably supported by Rhona Mitra who is impressive as doomed love interest Sonja and Bill Nighy who makes a welcome return as Victor. As anybody who has watched the previous films will expect there is plenty of impressive and rather bloody action but not so much that it gets in the way of the story. Overall I'd certainly recommend this to anybody who enjoyed the previous two films but it isn't essential to have seen them to enjoy this.

Terryfan For the record this is a prequel while 2003 Underworld is the first film of the entire series Underworld: Rise of the Lycans is the prequel explaining the history of the werewolves and vampires.The main protagonist is Lucian (Michael Sheen) the film main antagonist is Viktor (Bill Nighy) who is the father of Sonja (Rhona Mitra) who plays a part in the story once you see the film you will understand.Again this is a prequel so if you're new to the series you will find it to be full of useful information learning about the characters that appear in the first Underworld movie which helps out for many fans of the series and again new comers. Anyhow onto the movie itself. The story in this one is pretty well thought out and help us understand the characters, they did put in emotion where you can just be surprised by how much it gave to the characters.Michael and Bill who reprise their roles as Lucian and Viktor respected both gave a strong performance it made you want to see what happens next with their characters both men just brought their A game to the film.The music is very well done. Also the action scenes in this film just make you want more along with twist and turns you won't see coming. The main problem I have with the movie is that some of the plot could be a disappointment and moments you feel could have been done better. But with a strong story well balance talented acting and for fans of Underworld this is a movie to consider if you're a werewolf and vampire film fan I give Underworld: Rise of the Lycans an 7 out of 10

Spikeopath Underworld: Rise of the Lycans is the prequel to the previous two Underworld films. It tells the story about what led to the werewolf/vampire feud, with bloody energetic results.In core essence this is Braveheart/Spartacus, only in CGI laden horror/action form. Michael Sheen buffs up into Karl Urban, who as Lucian (bad ass Lycan) leads his species to a bloody revolt, and Kate Beckinsale has made way narratively for Rhona Mitra, who sexes things up. The action is pulse raising and the Gothic designs and atmospherics are first rate, while the battle royale finale is fit to crown any genre film of its type. Problems are evident, though. The constant flow of CGI blood becomes irritating after a while, and Bill Nighy (in spite of being a franchise regular) is still looking miscast! But it has proved to be a series with hairy legs and fangs that refuses to die, a popcorn munchers dream. So enjoy the spectacle and the screenplay homages, and I'll have a bag of tortilla chips and a choc ice please. 6.5/10
