StyleSk8r At first rather annoying in its heavy emphasis on reenactments, this movie ultimately proves fascinating, simply because the complicated, highly dramatic tale it tells still almost defies belief.

GL84 Living in 16th Century Germany, the head of a group of fanatical Puritans becomes the guardian of his twin nieces who get involved with a local warlord turning villagers into vampires and is caught in the middle of the war between the two sides battling for the two girls.There is quite a lot to like here being one of their better efforts. One of the better features here is that the film genuinely is a mixture between the more explicit violence and erotic tones present in many films. That is in fine form here as the use of the twins in here is quite an advantage as they have a great look to them since even though they were identical, you could completely believe one could be demure and innocent, yet the other could be hideous and vicious. That the sequence where a series of symbolic closeups on a hand stroking a candlestick during a love sequence is a finely erotic moment is a prime example of the two types of film this can be mixing along with the seductive qualities of the main vampire during his pagan games and ceremonies during the castle scenes, and the general manner of the activities around the village leave this with a lot of sensuality on the fringes of the story. As well, Karnstein Castle is a superbly crafted Gothic house and all the time spent is very atmospheric and realistically historic from the resurrection of the main vampire to the spectacular action scene featuring their march on the castle grounds that lets the location get put to good use as the multitude of skirmishes and battles leaves this one featuring plenty of travels through cobwebbed corridors and secret passages while it also gives us a short but great gore-fest in a shockingly well-done decapitation, a nasty ax- in-the-back, a horrific body hitting floor like sack of spuds, and a great enormous spike through the guts inside a spectacular conclusion that really hits some moments. Even the torture sequences are quite brutal, and they give it some extra violence, from the introduction of a busty wench pursued through a dark forest by a bunch of men dressed in black, being tied to a stake and burned alive to the various tortures inflicted over the innocents throughout the village that connects it to the other films. The last big plus is a truly outstanding performance by Cushing who is given one of his most multi-faceted characters ever, a complex and ultimately hypocritical man who does indeed recognize evil and who wants to rid the land of the evil yet his fanaticism corrupts him as much as the villain. These are it's finer points as there is very little actually to complain about here. The main issue here is that the nudity is actually pretty restrained, as the nightgowns hide much and are really reduced to a couple of scenes late in the film. There are also quite a few lapses of logic that can only be overcome if you have a really warped suspension of disbelief. The biggest is that the evil twin apparently becomes a vampire after she receives the vampire's bite because she's supposedly Satanic. Establishing her prior to this scene as truly evil and not just rebellious would have made her transformation more believable as everything says she's just a rebellious teenager. These, though, are minor complaints.Today's Rating/R: Nudity, Graphic Violence and several sex scenes.

dworldeater Twins Of Evil, for me has just about all the key components for a classic Gothic horror classic. There are vampires, a castle, the classic Hammer sets, gorgeous Playmate twins, titties,devil worship, fanatical witchburners,a good amount of blood and gore and satanic sacrifices. Let's also not forget about Peter Cushing's cold and cruel performance as Puritan religious fanatic Guastav Weil, who with his followers terrorize all the hot single women in the area. That alone is worth a 10 star rating. The Collins twins look great and perform well here as one is good and the other is evil. Damien Thomas was great as Count Karnstein, another awesome Hammer villain. Very appropriate and under rated performance. The score is excellent as well as the camera work. Performances are solid across the board. Twins Of Evil is the 3rd and final film in Hammers Karnstein trilogy. Compared to the other two films, there is less eroticism and nudity, and no lesbian stuff. However, in every way the film is solid. Twins Of Evil is an excellent atmospheric horror classic in the Hammer tradition and one of its most well made films from Hammer from the 70's. If that sounds good to you, Twins Of Evil will not let you down.

Predrag Great vampire movie made during the time Hammer studios decided to show off more 'skin' with their beauties - "Twins of Evil" stars Peter Cushing in a great role as a priest. What I like about "Twins of Evil" (besides the very pretty twins) is Peter Cushings character. He is a witch-finder who just happens to have actually found someone evil in the evil Baron. Unlike Van Helsing he is not careful or considered he just rushes in to kill anyone he judges as evil. The film is quite well done with some tense moments and an excellent atmosphere. Some good ideas, to one I like is that you can't become a vampire unless you are evil if you are good and bitten by a vampire you just die mores the pity!Cushing steals the show as the marvellously maniacal Gustav Weil. It is a shame that ill health limited Dennis Price's appearance as his fearful fawning showed a degree of acting skill that many of the younger cast could have done with learning from. With some good effects for the time and the contrast between Mary who is pure and innocent, and her worldlier sister Frieda this does make for some enjoyable viewing. Peter Cushing in his role at times seems more dangerous than the actual vampires as he is quick to burn anyone in sight that isn't part of his congregation. Dennis Price others sturdy support but is done no favors by the writer (Tudour Gates) as he is under developed, while the twins themselves, their voices dubbed, are fine and able to put enough of a different slant on their characters for us viewers to know which one is which. Damien Thomas' lustily fanged count is not a particularly striking villain, and David Warbeck as the normal love interest is too weak an actor to convince in the role. Anyone who loves classic horror with saturated color and period costume will not be disappointed.Overall rating: 8 out of 10.

NDbportmanfan Twins of Evil is about two sisters who have to go live with their aunt and uncle after their father past away. The uncle however is the leader of the church and the head of the witch burning council. Neither of the girls approve of this treatment and protest in their own way. If it wasn't for my desire to see if Gustav gets what is coming to him I might have just turned the movie off. None of the other characters are really that interesting to say the least. I think the movie used every twin cliché imaginable which was annoying. The villain was weak and not very intimating, while his lacky was pretty awesome until one scene that I will not say. You will know it when you see it, for 1972 it is pretty sad as they didn't need to include it. I think the film is held in high standing mainly due to the casting decisions. The IMDb rating is more accurate. The film is okay, not bad like some of the other Hammer films but just middle of the road on the very long list.
