e-53976 The energetic film, with a dark sense of humor, charges into one impending critical situation after another and never pauses to look back to evaluate what took place. Many possible subplots are brought up and just as quickly are forgotten (such as, an Iranian doctor in Iraq searching for an armless boy who makes predictions). It's a messy film but is strangely lyrical and moving, as it paints its ugly picture of a war-torn country that was promised by Bush that this war would make things better. The final shot of the once optimistic Satellite, now on crutches from a minefield explosion, turning his back on the American soldiers passing through his village, the same soldiers he a short time ago welcomed as the saviors of his people, tells us how that optimism has faded.

lileonhirth Turtles Can Fly is a film about a ton of refugee kids living in Iraq. These kids work extremely hard every single day. The main character Astrin was abused, raped, and had at kid at the age of 13. Astrin spends her time with her armless brother Hengov and her baby Riga. Throughout this film it is very obvious to see that Astrin struggles with depression, anxiety, and suicidal thoughts. One of the older kids Satellite organizes children into work gangs, and sells mines to dealers. Satellite falls in love with Agrin and tries his hardest to make her happy. Agrin is traumatized throughout the whole film because her parents were killed and she was rapped. Agrin does not live her life because all she can think about is her past. I did not enjoy watching this film because it carried a lot of depressing content. This film was very interesting because it showed a new perspective about the kids in Iraq. I was very interested in how hard the children work to try and make money. Although I did not enjoy watching this film, I would recommend this film to someone who is interested about the history in Iraq. A normal day for children in Iraq is extremely different to a normal day in the United States.

magonzalez-15762 I thought this movie was extremely well paced and had lots of interesting insight to offer. It played things from the Kurdish point of view during Saddam Husain's rule. However, I felt like some of the scenes were extremely strange. I know I'm not a child during war time, so I don't really now what they were supposed to be. I really liked both Satellite's character, and that of the arm less boy. I thought they were both very invested in the movie, and I felt like they would have been friends in normal circumstances. I was really invested in each of the characters in the story, and I thought it was very gripping how the sister took her own life and that of her child. I was confused however about the threat of bombing the arm less boy was supposed to have predicted. Was he predicting the American's would come, or was he predicting there were bombs?
