FuzzyTagz If the ambition is to provide two hours of instantly forgettable, popcorn-munching escapism, it succeeds.
BelSports This is a coming of age storyline that you've seen in one form or another for decades. It takes a truly unique voice to make yet another one worth watching.
Foreverisacastironmess I really enjoy all three of the stories in this movie in different ways, I think it shows just how versatile an actress Karen Black really was, and it's a shame she never really got her due beyond having a 'cult' thing going on in her later years as a B-movie queen I guess.. I thought she was a really cool and interesting lady, and I love her in this. I totally buy her in all of her strange little roles, the deceptively timid wallflower type, the god-fearing old maid, the sexy drag queen-looking bombshell, or indeed just the regular unfortunate victim who's unexpectedly forced to fight for her life! I found the first two stories to be pretty effective and interesting slow burners, I like the twist of the first story, he picks her as an easy target but too little too late does he learn that he's the one who's been getting played with right from the start in a twisted game of seduction and murderous conquest that she's been doing for a long time... The second one was a lot more predictable, with Black playing a woman with a rather unhealthy case of split personality disorder who essentially kills herself, or the sinful part of herself that she hates, with voodoo nonetheless! Then there's the third tale, which definitely makes the whole movie and realistically is probably why it's even remembered, in which she plays a real doormat of a woman who is even dreadfully put upon and dominated by her own mother, I love how the opening scene establishes a sense of unease before anything even happens just by the 'offness' of the relationship between Amelia and her mother, and it plays brilliantly into the chilling end which was a great way to wrap up the movie, with the possessed Amelia crouching in a very in your face animalistic way and grinning evilly as she awaits her unwitting visitor... It's not my era but I bet a ton of kids growing up in the seventies had nightmares of pint-sized killer fetish dolls possessed by bloodthirsty spirits that stabbed with a spear, gnashed their razor sharp teeth while making the rabid Speedy Gonzales noises, and attacked poor Karen Black relentlessly! Stabbing it back doesn't work, neither does trapping it or drowning it, and baking it in the oven backfires horribly! I think it still does a great job of selling the illusion that she's being mauled by the tiny assassin as she holds it to herself and bodily throws herself all over the place, Black was great at the physical stuff. The whole segment is very suspenseful and creepy, and you can easily see where it influenced the movies like Child's Play and Puppet Master, and who knows, maybe it even helped to create the terrific horror sub genre of the small creature on a murderous rampage as we know it! I genuinely love this spirited little movie, it's kind of quaint and old fashioned, but that's part of the charm for me, it has a good nostalgic aspect to it. I think that the 70s produced some of the best horror anthologies ever, and this one makes for a satisfying watch and is a real distinctive gem by Dan Curtis, classic macabre fun! X
Sam Panico Dan Curtis and Richard Matheson pretty much ruled 1970s made for TV horror. But when you throw in Karen Black and a memorable miniature villain, you're left with pure nightmare fuel for 70s kids. Sure, we can endure all sorts of gore and doom now, but on March 4, 1974, the ABC Movie of the Week was about to give you all sorts of bad dreams.STORY 1: JulieChad (Robert Burton, then-husband of the delicious Ms. Black) has it bad for his English teacher, Julie Eldrich (hey, Karen Black is in this, did I mention that?). So much so that just the glimpse of her thigh can make him totally forget all about class and fill his mind with daydreams. His friends don't get it -- his buddy Eddie says she's ugly. But that won't stop Chad, who watches Julie undress through her window before he asks her out to the drive-in.But Chad's a creep. Instead of just being happy about getting her to go out with him, he drugs her at the drive-in, then checks into a motel and takes all manner of sexually provocative photos of her. Yep. This is a TV movie playing during prime time -- the 70s were nuts.Chad gets what he wants -- a blackmailed Julie who will do whatever he wants. Until a few weeks later, she announces that the game is over. Julie's been a power bottom all along, setting the whole thing up.  "Did you really think that dull, little mind of yours could possibly have conceived any of the rather dramatic experiences we've shared? Why do you think you suddenly had the overwhelming desire to see what I looked like under 'all those clothes?' Don't feel bad... I always get bored after a while," she says before poisoning him and setting his darkroom on fire. She adds his obituary to a scrapbook but there's no time to rest. Another suitor has already shown up...Read more at http://bit.ly/2hXKMKN
irishm I can't imagine what might go through the mind of someone watching this for the first time in the present day, as an adult, who might be trying to take it seriously. I saw it as a kid on TV back in the 70's, and my brother and I laughed all the way through the final segment with the now-infamous Zuni doll. It had a couple of pretty good jump-scares, but nothing that was really going to frighten anybody, not even two kids up past their bedtimes. For years afterward, we'd come at each other waving an invisible spear and yelling "hi ya ya ya ya!" in our salute to Mr. Zuni. Memorable, certainly. Scary, not even a little bit. And the other two segments are 100 percent forgettable.
Rainey Dawn Three stories and each story gets better than the last. And yes the last story is the creepiest - freakiest - the Zuni fetish doll. The first story "Julie" and the second "Millicent and Therese" are suspenseful thrillers that are well worth watching. The third story "Amelia" is horrifying - it will scare the pants off of you.If you have not seen "Trilogy of Terror" do so!! It is one of the best made for TV horror movies that you will ever see.By the way, the Zuni fetish doll you will see in the third story of "Trilogy of Terror" makes Chucky look just like "Child's Play". Chucky cannot hold a candle to the Zuni. Zuni rules, Chucky drools.9/10
