SoTrumpBelieve Must See Movie...
Contentar Best movie of this year hands down!
Usamah Harvey The film's masterful storytelling did its job. The message was clear. No need to overdo.
Haplo-4 This Movie feels like one of those Classic thriller Movies of the 90s. In a positive sense that is. It's a not so complicated approach to a thriller, the stakes are fairly easy to get in to and, in general, the Movie doesn't spend too much time on potentially unnecessary details - i.e. not bloating. However, and this is in regards to some of the other Reviews for instance the Roger Ebert one, this is not a thriller from hell nor does it provide a hellish suspense. At times, although the positives above, the movie can feel a bit slow on the negative side. There are some characters that are too stereotyped, although well played. This include Kate Maras character Abby but also that of henchman Kolzak, played by Thomas Kretschmann. And the late transformation of Emily Mortimer's character, from liar to truthsayer is somewhat of a miss.Overall it is a movie worth giving a look. The locations are interesting and apart from the above mentioned it is well played and will provide enough suspense for a cosy evening with your favourite company. I have not been frightened enough to abandon the idea of going on the train myself.
Adam Peters (46%) An oddly unlikeable Russian set thriller that fails to draw out enough intrigue from a plot that should have had it by the bucket load. This may have a good cast and a bit of money behind it, but it's more Roger Corman than it is Alfred Hitchcock, yet no one told the editor so this is a good twenty or so minutes too long. On a plus side this is largely still a decent watch. The direction is fine, the performances are better than the script deserves, and there are much worse thrillers out there. By the end what your left with is a simple time-passer that has strokes of quality but will struggle to last in the memory banks for very long, if at all.
Myusersnameiscoolokay Transsibberian (2008) is a psychological mystery-thriller that tells the tale of two American travelers Roy (Woody Harrelson) and Jessie (Emily Mortimer) on their way from China to Moscow by using the old sturdy means of transportation, the train. They encounter a mysterious couple Abby (Kate Mara) and Carlos (Eduardo Noriega) whom befriend them become entwined in the couple's journey there. Jessie reluctantly develops a growing attraction for Carlos and then boom, her husband goes AWOL. Destination from hell. Purely from personal opinion, how anybody would willingly want to take a trip like this is mind-boggling. The film does a brilliant job of highlighting the lack of safety afforded to foreign travelers on the train. As the train reaches Moscow, some of the political nuances are discussed to provide overview (in a non-lecturing type of way). This is all done with great restraint, due to its status of not being a documentary and obviously, no one has signed up for one. Director Brad Anderson does little to highlight it as a go-to travel experience. The word bleak comes to mind when describing the atmosphere of the train ride. So, of course friendliness afforded to this American couple by other train travelers is troublesome and cause for suspicion. The camera pays special attention to the facial expressions of each pertinent character that the audience puts priority on deciphering the motives of this well-traveled couple. Sir Ben Kingsley plays a pivotal role in moving the films narrative during the middle of the film and of course, his screen presence never hurts. The first half brings us more mystery than thriller and vice versa. Everything is where it needs to be, no fat or fluff to eat up some screen time.
Tauren Humnus Stereotypical, "Russia - bad; USA - good" rubbish. I hated the female main character more than any other written character EVER. (This includes King Joffrey Baratheon from Game of Thrones!). She literally gets away with murder and convinces herself and everyone around her that she is a victim. The end shows the main character telling her murder victim's girlfriend where his body is so she can collect a shitload of cash. This same girl was tortured and beaten because of that main character but hey, water under the bridge. PATHETIC excuse for a film. The entire second half of the film I found myself anticipating the moment that bitch would get a bullet in her face. Alas, that moment never came. Disappointed to say the least!
