Highly Overrated But Still Good

Good films always raise compelling questions, whether the format is fiction or documentary fact.

what a terribly boring film. I'm sorry but this is absolutely not deserving of best picture and will be forgotten quickly. Entertaining and engaging cinema? No. Nothing performances with flat faces and mistaking silence for subtlety.

THE ZOMBIE DIARIES is probably the worst shot-on-video zombie movie out there, and there are plenty to choose from. So why they bothered making a sequel to that nonsense I have no idea. WORLD OF THE DEAD offers up more of the same, i.e. a semi-talented team of amateur film-makers shooting a non-existent storyline out in the countryside, replete with poor script and indifferent performances. It pains me to report that these films are British. The basic plotting involves a squad of soldiers battling to survive in a post-apocalyptic world. They have frequent encounters with zombies, who probably the least-frightening versions of the undead you'll have seen since one of those old 1930s films. It doesn't help that the actors playing the undead are singularly poor, you'd have thought it wouldn't be that difficult to play a zombie.Unfortunately, the main thrust of the storyline isn't about the walking dead, but rather a gang of vicious rapists who go around abusing and then killing women. There are a lot of protracted rape and misogynistic scenes in this film, which makes it a gruelling and unpleasant viewing experience, and about the opposite of what I'd call entertainment. It's a piece of trash, nothing more.

This film started out annoying the hell out of me by first showing you this family that's about to get attacked. The annoying part was they were using the camera to purposely pan away from danger and then wham when they panned back to the door. If a zombie is in my house and the only entry point to the room I'm in is the door I'm not gonna turn away especially when I hear it nearby.I still gave this film a second chance, zombies man I can't seem to get enough of them. I thought it was going to be a mockumentary but it just seems like the people are just taping what happens to them. This is your typical run of the mill zombie and it's the end of the world movie, nothing here you haven't seen before think 28 months later. There were a couple of rape scenes (one with a zombie) that weren't necessary at all.

A surviving band of soldiers and civilians have taken refuge at a military barracks. Life is tough and brutal, but hope appears when a high level communication is received from a military base on the coast, telling of sanctuary elsewhere in Europe... Just as salvation appears to be in reach, the base suffers an overwhelming defeat at the hands of the Zombies. The surviving handful of troops and civilians make their way to the coast to uncover the truth behind the message. Their perilous journey takes them across a now treacherous, death-ravaged landscape, where the living dead are vast in number and wandering bandits impose their own malicious sense of law and order. What follows is a journey into hell and a desperate battle against all odds for the very survival of the human race, and those two from Holland at the end.....The first movie wasn't very good, it made its money because it had a really good DVD cover, so, one could imagine how bad I thought this was going to be.And to be fair, it's as good as the first, but in my mind, my expectations were lowered that much, I enjoyed it just a little bit more. The acting is far from good, and the only one who made an impact on me was the girl who has a cinema named after her in London, because she was easy on the eye.The rest of the cast look solemn toward the camera and every now and again run into to some very depressed looking Zombies. My favourite scene though in the whole movie though was when the group wasted copious amounts of ammo on the slowest zombies in the world, when they could have easily strolled though the lot of them. The film has a little post modern ironic twist at the end, but I past caring when the fake sound effects of fighter jets took over the speakers.Worth watching, but you'll be looking at your watch a few times.

Besides what other people have said..because I too could tell it was going to be horrible after 3 instances of people being obviously stupid and not trying to get away or protect themselves with a bit of common sense in the first 10 minutes. If I had gone to see this in a theater I would've been angry. I'll watch just about anything in the world with zombies in it, and my standards can go pretty low as long as there's some redeeming value. This wasn't about zombies, and we finally turned it off about an hour into the movie after getting tired and depressed from watching a woman be raped for a couple of minutes. I'd liken this to the hostel or saw of zombie movies, but with less of a plot. I'm very disappointed, I think it had some things that could've easily made it into a much better movie if only they'd chosen to done so.
