Good concept, poorly executed.

If you like to be scared, if you like to laugh, and if you like to learn a thing or two at the movies, this absolutely cannot be missed.

what a terribly boring film. I'm sorry but this is absolutely not deserving of best picture and will be forgotten quickly. Entertaining and engaging cinema? No. Nothing performances with flat faces and mistaking silence for subtlety.

This film tells the story of a blind teenage boy, growing up in Sao Paolo. He has the support of a female classmate, who is his best friend. One day a handsome boy joins the class, and their relationship and their lives change drastically. It is rare that a film looks at the life of a blind teenager, let alone a gay one. It is even rarer for such a film to be good. "The Way He Looks" manages to be almost perfect. The first thing I notice is the great production. Every detail is attended to, such as the atmospheric and focused lighting on Leonardo when he talks with Giovanna in Leonardo's bedroom early on in the film. Sets are realistic and very well thought out, I particularly like the Braille decoration next to Leonardo's bed. Everything you see in the film is well designed, well thought out and well presented.I love the story to bits. It tells the tumultuous teenage years, coming of age and discovering oneself. It is so sweet and loving. It is positive and empowering. There is a four way relationship, and their emotions and dynamics are presented in a captivating manner. Giovanna's benevolence and her emotional roller-coaster add much depth to the story. In addition, Leonardo's beautiful exploration of the "normal" life with Gabriel is very touching. It is the simple pleasures in life that we have taken for granted that is the most beautiful. It is refreshing to see that a gay film that does not require nudity to draw people in. I truly enjoyed this film that offers hope to the disadvantaged population.

The pure simplicity of the creative filmmaking. We almost forgot that the main staple of a good movie is a story to tell. It all somehow got gradually replaced with car chases and explosions and stunning lack of anything to say, that doesn't prevent so-called "directors" from continuing to torture us with tons of decomposing garbage. And there comes this small, low budget gem of a movie. Teenagers, fight for independence, stirrings of forbidden love and all done with exceptional taste without the need to drown us in syrupy clichés. The innocence of youth, that breathtaking time of endless possibilities, brought to us with such cautious and tender hand. Such a refreshing movie, just in time for the Holiday season.

This is probably in my top 5 of gay movies. I had seen the short movie the director made years ago but the feature movie is so much better. We get to know the characters in depth and the disability and homosexuality of the main character are not traumatic, it is just a part of his personality. He suffers exactly the same situations that any other teenager would. Keeping the same cast of actors is also a plus, as you can get to love them once you know what they are going through. I recommend you to watch this one before you watch the short movie as you will enjoy the short one more. Thumbs up for the director who seems to create delicate stories (Also watch his short "Cafe com Leite").

The movie was cute and well-acted. It reminds me of the After-School Specials on TV we used to have here in the States, in that it was lighthearted with some great acting and touching upon difficult subjects effectively without going overboard. I wish we would have had movies such as this when I was growing up. It would have helped a lot. Hopefully, it helps some young folks was they deal with a difficult time.I also thought of the British movie "Beautiful Thing" when I was watching this. That also dealt with teenage boys dealing with same-sex attraction as they deal with the already-tortuous teenage years. The direction was decent, perhaps just a bit uneven at times.
