if their story seems completely bonkers, almost like a feverish work of fiction, you ain't heard nothing yet.

After playing with our expectations, this turns out to be a very different sort of film.

what a terribly boring film. I'm sorry but this is absolutely not deserving of best picture and will be forgotten quickly. Entertaining and engaging cinema? No. Nothing performances with flat faces and mistaking silence for subtlety.

The Victim was the second movie in my Night Visions Psycho Killers box. I didn't really have any expectations apart from the really short summary on the back of the box. The summary said this film "oozes" sex, that's kind of the only description tat I remembered when watching The Victim. Well that was correct. This film practically shoved sex down your throat with few scenes where it felt completely forced. I like the writing of this film, but there were few embarrassing parts because of this. Some of the sex scenes, some make you wonder if the writer(s) actually thought how stupid and sudden something was?I said I like the writing, and that's true. The structure of the story is very good. The narrative is non-chronological, and it's easy to see when there flashbacks occur. The filmmakers probably made it too clear considering the transitions from present to flashback and the other way around are emphasized by actual flashes. The audience will get it, considering the setting changes drastically and Jennifer Blanc's character spaces out briefly. The story itself is extremely interesting and the dialogue is smooth, apart from what I said before. I especially like any scene with just Blanc's character Annie and her friend Mary. Their chemistry is unbelievably good and the dialogue is very genuine. It reminds me of Death Proof. But what seems bad about this movie is the execution. The story is excellent, but the writing alone can't hold a movie. The cinematography and editing are sloppy, and there are several scenes that are way too long while nothing's actually happening. If you want an example, in the beginning there's a weirdly long and boring scene with Kyle (I hope I'm remembering that correctly) driving a car. They could've put the opening credits on that scene so it wouldn't be so annoying to watch. And I get that long scenes might be an artistic choice by the director, but in this case they didn't make the movie any more thrilling or frustrating in the good way, it is just really annoying to watch and wait the action to start. Yet luckily this movie is still short, so the scenes aren't stretched too much, just a few in the beginning, after that it's easier to watch. The Victim is a decent film. It's worth watching because of the story, but there are a lot of annoying details. I like this movie, yet I don't think it could ever become one of my favourites, and I don't see myself watching it again for a while. The story deserved a better execution.

Over the years Michael Biehn has delivered some of the most popular characters in films like Aliens, The Terminator, and Tombstone. With his latest film The Victim he takes on a much larger role as writer, director, and star to deliver a grindhouse style film that has been receiving much praise. Will he be able to bring the same skill and brilliance to his directing style as he has to his performances? The Victim follows a young woman running from two attackers that killed her friend. Her only hope is a reclusive man living in the middle of the woods whose life is thrown into a world of chaos with a simple knock on the door. While not exactly what the film seemed to be from the promotions and artwork it still managed to be pretty entertaining. Biehn puts his years of experience to use and showcases clear strength behind the camera as well as in front. His character here is one that fluctuates from various emotions, but still maintains a bit of mystery and darkness. The rest of the cast do a decent job with their characters, although a couple of the performances just didn't hit the mark quite as strongly as it should have. Jennifer Blanc's chemistry with real life husband Biehn shines through as these two spend most of the movie together and really bring the overall film together. Fan favorite Danielle Harris rounds out the cast, but is sadly pushed to a more of second tier level with little to do other than just be eye candy. This is a throwback to the grindhouse genre that has become the latest trend thanks to the Grindhouse film and works well for what they worked to deliver. For those that have heard about this film, be warned that it is more of a revenge type thriller than horror. Although there is an interesting back story there that will hopefully get explored in the future as it would have been a better direction to take the film.http://www.examiner.com/movie-in-dallas/bobby-blakey

I have followed the progress of The Victim for the past two years, and now completely understand everything Michael and Jennifer said about it. This is not a film to change your life, or make you contemplate the condition of Man. It is eighty-three minutes of plain, simple fluff! Michael Biehn lets the viewer know right away, on the first opening shot of the woods, that this film is not to be taken too seriously. . That little wink should clue viewers in and draw a chuckle. While the performances in The Victim will probably never win any awards, they are all strong. Some of the dialog is laughable, but that's OK! I believe that was the intention! Some of the lines are direct nods to other films, and Terminator fans should recognize one such reference easily.Knowing what the film-makers went through to complete this film, and what they have since done to promote it and find distribution for it, I have to say kudos and applause to the effort! Their passion and commitment to make an "unrepentantly sleazy" little sexploitation film says to me that making a dream become a reality *can* (and does happen).Jennifer, as Annie, is pure joy to watch. Some of her scenes were very intense, and both she and Michael have admitted that it was their personal relationship as husband and wife that helped to influence her performance. I was utterly convinced of her terror when she got to Kyle's cabin, and her ability to transform from shocked to tough and sarcastic, to beguiling to get what she wants shows a depth to her acting abilities.Ryan Honey and Denny Kirkwood are interesting in their portrayals of two dirty cops, just out to have a good time. Kirkwood got, without doubt, one of the best laugh-out-lines of the movie! You'll know what I mean when you see it. Honey is perfectly smarmy as the Sheriff wanna-be, and I found myself rooting against him at every opportunity.Danielle Harris, aka the Scream Queen, is one saucy, sexy, beautiful woman. I am not familiar with her work in horror films, but in this movie it was easy to see the absolute love that her character Mary and Jen's character Annie share for one another. This was not acting, as the two women are best friends in real life and they were just basically being themselves. She also gets some of the best lines, or eye rolls, or looks of sheer boredom in the movie. She is one powerhouse little lady. All in all, The Victim is a fun little romp. Any Michael Biehn fan will love it for *so* many reasons!! I cannot really talk about the man without gushing, so I will simply say that I am proud of him and his first offering as writer/director. He'd *better* be working on a sequel as penance for the way things end. I actually cursed him, then laughed, when I saw it the first time. So, no... The Victim will not change your life, folks. However, it should let you step outside of your everyday RL drek and just kick back and enjoy for awhile! It won't kill you, and you just might have some fun.My rating on a scale of 1 to 10 is 24.

OK first off when i criticize a film i do that based on what the movie had to work with.with a budget of only $800 k, three weeks of pre-production and a cast and crew of amateurs. michael biehn who is a veteran actor and one of the most underrated and underused actors of his generation (he could have been one of the greatest action stars of the 80's) exploited what he had to the last dime and drop of sweat using his experience in order to direct the rest of the cast, in fact you can see different biehn roles in the film, eg: the character played by Ryan Honey is Lt. Coffe from the Abyss, resulting in believable performances from the entire cast. Biehn as usual is a scene stealer, he knows how to handle a character, he plays a very calm guy but for some reason you think that there's something wrong about him. the thing that disappointed me in this film is the script, michael biehn should've had hired someone else to do the job, the dialogue was okay. i read in other reviews that it was awful, well i don't think that people come up with funny jokes and phylosophical lines every day in fact i think that in such a situation people actually don't know what to say. on the other side the storyline wasn't effective with flashbacks that add nothing to the story and the character development and finally the pace of the film which i think was too slow for a thriller but the script wasn't all bad there's this thing that keeps you watching even though in the first hour there's nothing going on and that's you don't know who is the Victim.
