Good movie but grossly overrated

It’s fine. It's literally the definition of a fine movie. You’ve seen it before, you know every beat and outcome before the characters even do. Only question is how much escapism you’re looking for.

The story, direction, characters, and writing/dialogue is akin to taking a tranquilizer shot to the neck, but everything else was so well done.

Now, I don't have that much to say about this movie, I write this review to say that the IMDb-score is too low. Here is what I think happened with this. The Tens make fun of Christianity, therefore a lot of people rate it low. Don't listen to these humorless people. The Tens is not laugh out loud-funny every single second, but it is definitely a piece of light entertainment, good for a couple of laughs. To most people at least. There are several segments here and hey vary in quality, but overall this is, like I just said, light entertainment. Some of the segments are kind of strange, not everyone likes that. Paul Rudd is funny and it was after seeing this that I started liking him. Not that I didn't like him before, but you know. Liked him better.I think I might even see it another time, some time in the future. I can't say that about all comedies!

This is the kind of script that rarely sees the light of day, containing more controversy than the average viewer, producer or actor is willing to handle. In other words, I think it's a miracle this rare comedy gem got made.It is made of short stories that stand on their own and yet make a part of a bigger one. All jokes are played with a straight face (Airplane style) which makes them so much more hilarious. The take on the meaning of commandments rivals observations made by George Carlin.I discovered the movie accidentally while tracking Liev Schreiber's film career and couldn't be happier. One recommendation. You have to be a hardcore atheist and generally open-minded in order to enjoy this film. If you are touchy about religion, watch Passion or The Last Temptation. This is not your film. The movie isn't trying to be offensive, yet I can see it offending many viewers. Don't let the low rating fool you. It's a 9.0 grade film, if you are in the right mindset.

This was so bad that it makes me think about "The Producers." Did someone need to lose a pile of money so they backed a film that they knew would be too awful to succeed? I've got to hand it to the actors that they put their all into it and seemed to have a good time. Winona Ryder was paired with, erm, an unusual and unlikely character and she still did a great job. I'll give this film a single star just because of her performance. But it was really just a terrible film. It seemed to me like they were aiming for so-tasteless-it's-funny, but it was too crude and completely lacked cleverness.

When my friend and I originally rented this movie, we turned it off about 30 minutes in when someone walked in and pointed out that my friend was asleep and I was staring blankly at the table.SINCE THEN however, we have both watched the movie dozens of times, and laughed until we hurt EVERY time. We now both own it (since the rentals were adding up to some hefty bills) and we watch it together whenever we can. It gets better every time. This may not be for everyone, apparently many people were not impressed. But it's a special kind of humor that not everyone gets. I'm sure, even after watching it so many times, there's still stuff I miss. I love it, and for the people who can fully understand the comedy of this movie, it's a definite TEN.
