Pluskylang Great Film overall
Onlinewsma Absolutely Brilliant!
Baseshment I like movies that are aware of what they are selling... without [any] greater aspirations than to make people laugh and that's it.
Lachlan Coulson This is a gorgeous movie made by a gorgeous spirit.
fluna1030 ...there aren't many "Made For TV" movies that stand out . . . But, This One Does!!! My earliest memory of this TV movie was back when it was shown on the ABC TV Network Show "Tuesday Movie Of The Week" (I saw it in Black & White, It IS in Color) in 1970. This is a story of aliens from two different planets to wage war against each other . . and staying oblivious to earthlings on what's going on with each other. In my opinion, this movie reminds me of the TV show "The Invaders" (also a show on ABC) but, with a different twist & story line. Lloyd Bridges (Remember Sea Hunt?), Angie Dickensen (Police Woman) & Daniel J. Travanti (Hill St. Blues) star in this movie. As a collector of movies from my past, I have yet to see this title available on either VHS, BETA, LASERDISC, or DVD. This title is also very hard to catch on Cable or anywhere else. If you're one of the lucky ones to watch it, This TV Movie is Excellent Entertainment!! Enjoy.
chicosan01 Thanks to you all for your comments. It is nice to see there are other 'The Love War' people out there. Several of you mention you were ten when you say it for the first time, I was about the same age. Like Duel (which has been commented on several times) and several episodes of Hawaii 5-0 (I lived in Hawaii as a child), I've remembered this film ever since seeing it the first time. I was living in Hawaii at the time and even remember what I was doing while watching. It is amazing that these 'movies of the week' could have such an impact. Was it because they were so good, or because we were so impressionable? I too would like to see it again. But, even more, I think it is ripe for a remake. If Battlestar Gallactica can be remade from a shlocky, 80's boondogle into a serious, exciting, suspenseful quality series, why couldn't 'The Love War' be remade for SCIFI channel?
CatoTSR2 A really strange esoteric sci-fi movie, that came out of the 70s creative culture period: Lloyd Bridges and Angie Dickenson, in a sexy exciting winner takes all, inter galactic rival war,on planet earth: Only identifiable by some really cool looking sexy shades. These aliens were out to kill each other,by hook or crook, cloned as humans! Climatic ending, resulting in a Moor-ssh want for a sequel, that never was.Shame really, yet another one of these black and white 70s B movies, that never gets an airing on afternoon time TV. Out of the Brotherhood of The Bell, Mould: Time for the cover version chaps, Im thinking Charlize Theron and Daniel Craig for the 2008 remake!
wildpeace10 Perhaps the reason this TV movie is remembered now by older people who saw it in the 70's is because of it's shocking ending.Without revealing too much,it is not a happy one.it is also an unsatisfying one since we don't clearly understand the motivation behind it.The script writer seems to have tried to end the story with a twist ending but it's brought without excitement and turns out to be flat. This TV movie which lasts only about 70 minutes (without commercials) was clearly low budget and was probably shot in a very limited time. There is rear projection in many of the bus scenes and the ending seems to take place on an already constructed western set.The alien devices(apart from the glasses)are not very convincing and the search device sounds exactly like crickets noises! What holds the film together is the relationship between lloyd bridges and angie dickinson even though they don't create the chemistry that they should be creating. When those two aren't together on screen, most of the film turns to be dull and boring action scenes.Any episode of the one hour police woman series which later starred angie dickinson looks like a masterpiece beside this underdevelopped scripted film. The''you need glasses to see the aliens'' is a great idea(it was used later in THEY LIVE) and perhaps it's also one reason why the film is remembered today even though the disappearance of the dead alien bodies in flames was probably an idea borrowed from the TV series the invaders. (Domonic frontier who did the theme for the invaders also does the music for this movie) The film holds some good ideas and should probably get remade.it would be very easy to surpass this dated film.
