Robert Joyner The plot isn't so bad, but the pace of storytelling is too slow which makes people bored. Certain moments are so obvious and unnecessary for the main plot. I would've fast-forwarded those moments if it was an online streaming. The ending looks like implying a sequel, not sure if this movie will get one

The Movie Diorama Two points that I need to clear up immediately. This is my first Uruguayan film and I watched the American remake ('Silent House') before this. So whilst acknowledging the above two statements, I have to say the original is a landmark in experimental film making. Claiming to be shot in one continuous 82 minute take, it showcases the basic ability in crafting a film with just a six thousand dollar budget, yet its inventive direction elevates this horror to be in the league of those that have a much higher budget. Does the low budget show? Yes, which you could say is the film's detriment. However, the fact that it was made with pocket money is part of the allure and charm. The story involves a woman wandering around a house that her family are choosing to sell, where she hears strange loud noises which rapidly turns her peaceful night into a hellish torment. The main attraction is the concept of being shot in one take. You immediately start to become entranced by the director's technique, quickly thinking to yourself "how did they pass the camera through the car?" or "what if the actress messes up right at the end?". It's a bold statement, and one that certainly makes this film memorable. The claustrophobic dark environment increases the tension to its maximum potential. This is a horror that puts all of its energy into building a thrilling atmosphere, and it succeeds brilliantly. The short runtime allows for rapid pacing as we journey through the desolate corridors whilst nervously biting our nails. Aside from the above, that's all this film has going for it. As always, the problem with a low budget is that it's incredibly rough around the edges. There is no finesse. The plot was clearly sidelined because it makes no sense whatsoever. No characterisation, no plot development (except the last five minutes which were far too convoluted) and a few too many plot holes. The scares consisted of loud noises, although the polaroid scene was effective. It's not often I say this, but I prefer the remake...

nickcooper567 The others must be made of stone! (or just braver than this guy!)Genuinely one of the most nail biting horror/thrillers i've seen! I never bother writing reviews but I had to, just to stand up for this film. To be quite honest, I don't know if it was, but who gives a s**t if it's not been shot in one continuous shot like they said (lied to by the film industry! who'd have thought it!?) I thought it was very well directed, incredibly tense and great lighting, sound design and the Polaroid camera is one of my favourite horror techniques now! I'd not seen that used before watching this and i'm sure there's other that use it! I think the story stands up pretty well, (but maybe i'm a moron! who knows?!) especially compared to the Hollywood re makes we all see aaaaaaall the time, have a bit of horror culture haha. I don't wanna over sell it, and I think the other reviewers might've helped me not too :p. But turn the lights off and sit on your own without jumping or putting a pillow infront of your face at any point and i commend you! Give it a watch, I think you'll like it. It'll open up a new love, for what i guess is Venezuelan horror, if you're not already in love with it!

sqdnb what i was expecting hearing a movie from uruquay, after a lot of great Spanish horror movies was good enough, that Americans made a remake of it.so i sat down watching the movie and tried to get what this movie wanted to deliver. but just after starting the movie i felt kind of awkward about the girl's weird behaviour, the endless long shooting of film when there is nothing happening and a terrible shaky camera. sure here some people would now say, that this is the beauty of that movie . but if there is no story, no depth, no activity at all in a movie and you do all that, then you just created the most boring movie you can imagine.. when the girl in the movie heard voices, saw her father being murdered, saw her father's position changed, saw the killer or meets her affair her reaction is completely unnatural and failed to deliver any authentic feeling to the viewer. AH of course now is a good time to say that i am just too stupid to get the ending and that she actually killed everyone. you people are so easy to manipulate if that is so... i don't know how many movies i've watched with the same twist to clean up a bad movie and make you think that you are the idiot and not the people who created the movie. even she killed them her emotions would look a lot different.well back to the movie: -girl walking around in the house in slow motion, having an incredible interest in looking at every piece of equipment. -girl's father died and his body is changing rooms many times in the movie. -girl walking around in the house in slow motion, having an incredible interest in looking at every piece of equipment. -girl happily found the key to get outside -girl running outside and sees a creepy girl -girl happily meets her friend (later you know her affair) -girl can not answer the question of "where is your father?" and says "i don't know", later to be revealed to be the "brilliant" twist of this unworthy movie. -girl doesn't want to go back to the house but the guy is eager and doesn't care about the blood on her dress -then inside the house the girl is happy to be back in the house and starts to space up looking at house equipment. -girl's affair suddenly disappeared -girl finds her affair and he pretends to be dead -girl is actually starting to talk and we are all happy knowing that the whole thing we saw is just pure fiction of the girl's mind .......endacting: just a really stupid idea to give a amateur actress a role where she has to act out her emotions non-stop through a whole movie, where she completely failed.screenplay: in general just a guy holding a camera and walking behind the girl the whole movie.dialogue: senseless and stupid even if you are happy with the great twist.atmosphere: sometimes good then again just boringsound: actually pretty nice and mild use of music and sounds

pappershortage Poor acting skills, poor camera angle. Why make a movie if you don't know how to direct? You'll lose the crowd that way. If you don't know the whole story of what happen back then just don't make a movie and think that your going to make a profit out of NOT A SCARY MOVIE. Some parts of the movie make me laugh a little. Like come on, have the actress look for the ghost and you need to have hardcore acting skills. This chick was boring to watch. Hmmm one continuous shot? You think you can break a record? This director needs education. I know this is base on true event. Lets try this word "Base on True Story". The whole script needs to be re-written because it was hard to see the character not wanting to speak or acted like a clueless dummy. I want to see the suspense build up not wanting to see from no suspense to no suspense. Poor production. I hope Elizabeth Olsen has better acting skills then this girl. I mean I gave this girl a thumps up for not acting GOOD MONEY rolling in. Were is the Raspberry Award. I hope the 2012 version is better then this one.
