Let me be very fair here, this is not the best movie in my opinion. But, this movie is fun, it has purpose and is very enjoyable to watch.

It's a feast for the eyes. But what really makes this dramedy work is the acting.

It is a whirlwind of delight --- attractive actors, stunning couture, spectacular sets and outrageous parties. It's a feast for the eyes. But what really makes this dramedy work is the acting.

As a movie on it's own, it is very weak, it isn't scary nor suspenseful, some may enjoy it based on the simple fact that it's based or "influenced" by a true story. Thats it.

Doesn't make sense, this film is a complete and total pile of rubbish. Mr West you should be embarrassed that you released this film. I am a huge fan of valley of violence and VHS so what happened here is beyond me. I'm actually lost for words I cant explain what is so bad with this film as there is nothing good about it........ Already out there that stands as legitimate information. Try reading "Raven,"try viewing a quality documentary and understanding the historical context from which this "movie" came from. I'm sorry but people really died in this horrible ordeal and it clearly wasn't a film. Sometimes spending 4m on a project is just a bad idea outside giving work to actors and film crews. It's not a mystery that opening weekend seemed to bring in less than $550 USD. This effort would have been better served by the creators simply retelling the original story perhaps from a different view point. I thought it was in poor taste to put up that 167 lives were lost and that only two survived. Try over 900 with no movie stars involved. 3/10 was for how things looked at the outset. Don't pay any money for this.

...and even that doesn't typically besmirch the reputation of the painter, in this case writer/director Ti "V/H/S" West. It's almost hard to believe that "The Sacrament" came from the same guy who gave us "The House of the Devil," a far superior slow-burn creeper. Only viewers who've no clue about the Jonestown Massacre in the late 70s will take "The Sacrament" as anything more than a cheap fictionalization of that event, and West's choice of the "found footage" format does little to illuminate what brought hundreds of people to commit mass suicide on the orders of a tyrannical charismatic madman. The result is unsurprising revelation that can be seen coming a mile away. Disappointing, to say the least. Go for it if you must, but don't say you weren't warned that you'll wish you hadn't. I give you my sacred promise that you have been.
