The Rite Audience Reviews

Actuakers One of my all time favorites.
Lucybespro It is a performances centric movie
Maleeha Vincent It's funny, it's tense, it features two great performances from two actors and the director expertly creates a web of odd tension where you actually don't know what is happening for the majority of the run time.
Rexanne It’s sentimental, ridiculously long and only occasionally funny
Claire Timothy If you've chosen to watch "The Rite," I'm guessing it is because you are a fan of demonic activity and watching morticians at work. If you are not fond of these things or enjoy less than scary horror films, then I cannot stress strongly enough to stay away from "The Rite."My friends and I diligently searched Netflix for horror movies that weren't rated R. At the time, we had no idea that choosing "The Rite" would cause us such boredom that night. It took the longest time to give the background on the story. We found ourselves paying no attention to the movie, and only to our phones. The movie created a very awkward environment as it progressed; I knew that I wanted to start another, but I was too scared that I would let down my friends. When it finished, we all admitted that "The Rite" was definitely not something we'd want to watch again.Never did any of us scream in terror. At the "tense" scenes, I cringed with embarrassment. The movie was not scary, but it most certainly was disturbing. I found myself either bored to death or wanting to skip scenes that made me feel uncomfortable. The film answers the question, "What can the writers possibly do to make an interesting story dull and mundane?" We longed for an exciting ending, but it never came. Scenes began to meld together, and many random elements came into play. From the abounding amount of stray kittens to a possessed donkey, I became more confused. At the end, some things were explained, but many of my questioned remained unanswered. Multiple events occurred without a real reason, and the film could have been much shorter if the writers considered if what they were writing actually served a purpose. In closing, I would like to mention the lack of emotion. In the character's time of peril, I did not feel any real want for him to live. Throughout the movie, the protagonist was portrayed as cold and emotionless. Yes, he seemed fairly distressed in a few scenes, but it did not make me feel sorry for him- and I could tell that none of it was real sadness. In a disappointing movie, the characters were most likely the most disappointing thing about it.
ave-dragons Good film but the graffiti actually said , me that owns it now , and not, he belongs to me now ? The film was great , very well acted and was set in a stunning location , it was a bit slow in the beginning but when it finally got going we were in grossed in the film and Antony Hopkins was brilliant . we didn't actually go to the cinema to watch this film we rented it but I would have rather seen it in the cinema it would have looked better on the big screen . the acting by all was superb bay all the cast . good film well worth the rental fee and would like to own it to watch again .would I recommend this film , yes I would it is well worth a look ,if you are a bit jummpy this isn't that bad ,but there is a part that will make you jump ,but I will not spoil it .
Dr_Sagan This is a movie that deals with the "delicate" theme of exorcism (i.e. the practice of evicting a demon from a person they are believed to be possessed). I describe it as delicate because it seems very difficult to distinguish a person with a mental illness from someone who is possessed, IF such thing exists at all in real life.In past times, demonic possession was a common belief to explain the abnormal behavior of a person. Even nowadays, when everything else has failed, and the science can't provide a solution, people in some parts of the world still believe in that and seek help to practices of mysticism like exorcisms. In this movie exorcism is presented in conjunction with lost faith. It is inevitable that the non-believer has to see with his own eyes for his faith to be restored. The atmosphere of the movie is eerie from the start. Even before the demons...present themselves! The reluctant hero and the universe that conspires so he can find his way to God, is presented in a solid way.The cast is good. Anthony Hopkins is as excellent as ever. The music helps to establish the theme of the movie and Rome and the Vatican look majestic as ever, maybe the best set to place such a movie. There are some grisly images but you want be scared because of them. The director bets on the atmosphere if not anything else.Overall: Not a great movie, but not bad either. It won't help your faith to become stronger. For that look elsewhere.
mickmaxy An excellent and memorable tale. Anthony Hopkins does not disappoint in this gritty recounting of the burden borne by exorcising priests, he displays a battery of personalities all believable in the way that only Hopkins can be comfortable in so many skins. Colin O'Donoghue portrays the hesitant priest well in that he shows the 'prove it then' attitude of youth coupled with determined maturity by a recently experienced epiphany. Musical score was for the most part done very well for the genre where it is barely noticed by being well blended to suit the visual experience. A pity Ciarán Hinds did not play a larger part, but the films purpose was to focus on Teacher, Student and Evil's part in life.
