Peter Pluymers The only thing I'll remember from this movie are the most ridiculous and bizarre eyebrows on the forehead of a member of the group who are doomed to be slashed. As for the rest, "The Redwood Massacre" is a slasher film that adds nothing new to the slasher genre. The 80's were the era of gory slasher films with of course "Halloween", "The Texas Chainsaw Massacre" and "Friday the 13th". Jason Voorhees hid his face behind a hockey mask. Michael Myers used a white mask. Leatherface used the skin of his victims. In this film the Scottish bloodthirsty killer came up with the brilliant idea to use a potato sack. Is this killer the crazy farmer who massacred his family? Or is it the buried and after wards missing farmer's son? That's not entirely clear. And you shouldn't expect a statement from the wildly chopping killer, because throughout the whole movie, no sensible word comes out of his mouth.I know slasher movies aren't famous for their sophisticated story lines (although the first Friday the 13th was a bit more than just simply slaughtering teenagers) and Oscar worthy performances. Ultimately, the starting point of such films is showing disgusting, sickeningly images such as cutting up unfortunate, innocent campers. Liters of blood flowing at that time is a logical consequence. In "The Redwood Massacre" they probably received remains of blood from other slasher films because the way blood is gushing here, you won't see anywhere else in your lifetime. So excessive, that it gets downright ridiculous. A hefty punch already ensures gushes of blood splashing in all directions, as if a number of main arteries are being sliced. A firm nosebleed results in blood-soaked clothes and hair. As if, just like in "Carrie", a bucket of pig's blood is thrown on them.Among the group of youngsters once again the same characters occur. Obviously, there's a spoiled bitch (Lisa Livingstone as Kirsty) who actually does nothing but complain all the time and clearly didn't want to participate in this venture. It amazed me that she didn't start to discuss with the serial killer about the fact that he probably used the wrong laundry detergent, since there are still bloodstains visible on his lumberjack shirt. Then there's the characterless masculine part. Their only function is being part of the company and being transported to the slaughterhouse. There's also the party-girl Rebecca (Rebecca Wilkie) who, as I mentioned earlier, only stands out because of her ridiculous eyebrows. And finally there's Pamela (Lisa Cameron). Perhaps the most down-to-earth member of the whole group and waiting for her boyfriend. The latter apparently got lost and wanders through the woods. Getting lost is apparently a habit in those Scottish forests, because the so-called party in the ruins of Redwood turns out to be rather lifeless without the other party-goers . Also lost? Or worse?The pace of this brutal slasher is damn high. The opening scene immediately shows a horrific murder. The sadistic brute is revealed in closeup the first moment. I guess the writers decided not to be too mysterious about that. And before you know it a couple camping somewhere in the woods, a lost mountain biker and two members of the group disappear and are being chopped into pieces. The massacres are brutal, gory, sadistic and sickening. What do you expect from a straight-in-your-face slasher?And yet this film isn't exactly excellent. The dialogs are totally ridiculous. The characters are highly irritating and extremely stupid. Eventually they deserve to end like filet Americain. The bloody scenes are excessively bloody. At times it seemed as if it was engine oil dripping from the victims. Stupidities pass the whole time. The bloodthirsty killer could hear the slightest sound. But two people talking to each other was beyond his hearing spectrum. Certain developments seemed utter stupid like for instance the disappearance of two group members overnight. This was so abruptly and without explanation. As if they forgot to include it in the film. The history of the serial killer remained vague. And finally, there was also a completely useless character in the form of the father of a murdered teenager. His contribution to the whole was banal and his reaction to Pamela was bizarre. And how the hell can you drive in circles when there's only one straight road through the landscape? Can someone explain that to me? But most of all there's the fact the movie is so uninspired. When you intend to make another slasher movie, please include something new or original. This was just another colorless hack and slash horror. punkekahh Couldn't be worse. There's no story, just a try for fryday 13th. Awful directing, awful acting, awful conversations, awful visual effects, where in every kill there's a close-up, so you don't really see the stuff happening. Someone gets beaten up, no broken noses, no broken teeths, nothing is broken. Lot's of syrups and no point. It's just a bit sh*t with some cool music effects. That's all. I couldn't even watch the last 10 minutes because i was forcing myself to watch it about 30 minutes before the ending. If you like bad movies, where there's only syrup flying around, then go for, this is your movie. If you like movies that, at least, make any sense, then keep searching. You won't find it here.

ASouthernHorrorFan "The Redwood Massacre" has a pretty cool story. It does seem to piece together some elements of many classic horror mythos that came before, but the Redwood legend doesn't feel like a rip off (at least it didn't to me). It just uses the best components of the slasher construct and builds a really nice, dark, origin story for this truly intimidating killer. The direction and acting are straightforward with scenes and staging that screams traditional horror. For me the film is as fun in its own modern way as "Madman" and "The Burning" were the first time I saw them. "The Redwood Massacre" moves full force from the beginning to the end in an almost nonstop killing spree of visceral carnage. The special effects and soundtrack keep with the darker, more grindhouse feel. That is a slight deviation from the classic slasher styles like "Friday The 13th" and is more closely related to "Texas Chainsaw Massacre". This film has a more contemporary atmosphere to it with the choice of music it uses. Not sure what the feeling is but much like "Hostel" made me almost uncomfortable with the instrumental that was chosen-especially during the bloody kill scenes, is much like the feeling I got watching this film. Just an unapologetic show of brutality coupled with some gore-rich special effects and blood splatter. I don't think I have seen to many UK/British slashers show the bloody bits as full on as "The Redwood Massacre" does. ( ? )Overall I enjoyed the film. Although the story was built on well established beliefs surrounding the "slasher" as monster, the actual Redwood legend is a nice, disturbing and believable story. The blood and gore (and there is a lot of it) is well put together and in your face. The killer is recognizable and familiar to the slasher genre but brought to life in a very original, creative way that doesn't feel copycat. It is just a really fun and brutal slasher that stays serious with very little satire or "comic relief". I was a bit annoyed at the end with the final bit of dialog but the way it ends suggests a sequel so I liked that aspect. I think fans of slasher and gore will enjoy this film. It really is a return to the classic horror that most of us grew up on in the early 80's.

Finfrosk86 A lot is done right here, the kills are alright. The killer is actually pretty cool. There is a lot of blood. But the whole time something is missing. The killer looks pretty cool, but at the same time he is kind of boring.I caught myself wondering why I wasn't more entertained by this, because it should have been more entertaining. It had the necessities. It has large amounts of blood, which I like, the problem is it just looks like someone is pouring blood on whoever gets killed. Didn't have the impact it should.One thing that was real bad was the punching-sounds. For the most part the sound design was OK, but in a couple of scenes the killer is beating the crap out of someone, blood is just gushing, and the sound of the hits are like, *tsh* *tsh* *tsh*. That doesn't fly. You need some bass, and some good crunch in there, for a big fist hitting a face repeatedly like that. Strange how the director was just fine with that. And it is so light for most of the movie. Like daytime. Not scary or tense at all.Anyway, this is probably not worth your time, I'm afraid. There are a lot of good slashers out there. Maybe skip this one.
