The film makes a home in your brain and the only cure is to see it again.

I enjoyed watching this film and would recommend other to give it a try , (as I am) but this movie, although enjoyable to watch due to the better than average acting fails to add anything new to its storyline that is all too familiar to these types of movies.

Through painfully honest and emotional moments, the movie becomes irresistibly relatable

We got a peculiar flick here. One second it appears to be a legit, classic HK horror flick, as it's atmosphere and overall macabre story is basically pretty grim dealings. But then the next moment, because of maybe it's loose style of story-telling, lack of effective chills, and feelings of familiar territory, it comes off pretty average, and occasionally slightly boring.A model photographer/thief has the hots for the new girl. Well, not really, but he does want to bang her. I don't see why he would, she's kinda got a man-thing going on. Honestly, if she wanted to grow a beard, she's got the jaw line so it could work. But anyways, he tries getting her in the sack, but instead just gets them both loaded, and sick, causing them to both pass out. Well, during the night, an evil statue that the sleazebag stole earlier manifests a demon, and the demon then, I guess, rapes the sleeping ladyboy. Gotta tell ya the truth, it didn't look like rape to me. But since the movie has the word in it's title, I'll go along with it. Anyways, she gets prego from the demon, she thinks naturally thinks it's the guy's, even though it's quite clear they both know they didn't bang. He passed out on the table fully dressed, where she was in the bed. Again, whatever....so the photographer starts neglecting his unborn child, they argue, and she accidentally perishes....then the story gets going as she cursed him before she died. Now the flick is a revenge story, with zombies (only a minuscule amount at the end), curses and magic flying at a decent pace. I wanted to like this movie, a lot. But it just never got me caring. I didn't dislike it mind you, but almost everything I've seen here (minus a couple choice gross scenes) I've seen in other comparable HK flicks. The gloomy, hazy, white/blue light atmosphere...the revenge, the curses, the puking (which there was a lot of, and done very well) the magic holy-men etc. I'm just saying, if you've seen a lot of these types of films, you'll most likely be cool with this film, but don't be surprised if you happen to come out of it feeling less than impressed. I suppose it's a decent starting point if you're not familiar with this standout Asian horror sub-genre, but if you're looking to jump into the deep end, I suggest looking into others first. 6.5/10p.s. What they should have done here is focused on the chick's 'retarded' brother from the beginning...him being the villain of the movie would have been creepy as hell.

Tom Lau Moon-tong directs this grim horror film about playboy photographer Mo Hsien-sheng,who while on a shoot steals a grotesque statue from an abandoned temple. That night,he gets drunk with model Shu Ya and the two wind up in the sack, passed out.In the middle of the night,a creature emerges from the statue and rapes the sleeping model. When she wakes up the following morning, she has no memory of the encounter.Later, when she learns that she is pregnant, she has Mo,who has since shacked up with another woman, take her to the abortion clinic.Yet when the procedure is about to take place, the fetus leaps out of the womb and slays the doctor and nurse.Months later, just before Shu Ya is about to give birth, she's killed in a horrible car accident.During the ensuing autopsy, the fetus again leaps out of the womb and runs for the hills.Meanwhile,Mo learns that the statue contains the ashes of a baby whose father killed it in an unlikely cure for asthma."The Rape After" is loaded with plenty of dark and creepy atmosphere of impending doom.It reminds me a little bit "The Beyond" and "City of the Living Dead".The zombies are Fulciesque and the autopsy of the charred corpse of a pregnant Shu Ya will surely give some of you nightmares. Not a great deal of gore, but fans of bizarre HK horror films should be pleased.8 out of 10.

Only if you have a horror of boredom does this filmic compost pile qualify as a horror movie. From acting to directing to lighting to pacing to editing to continuity to monster and gore effects, the entire production is an exercise in how not to make a scary film... or a film of any kind.Note to filmmaker: vomit scenes are not a good substitute for a suspenseful storyline and interesting character development. You guessed it folks... lots of spewing in this one.It is clear that the people involved pooled their lunch money on a free weekend to put this mess together. Next time, EAT! Then go bowling.

I'm no sissy. I've watched Mario Bava's BEYOND THE DOOR II in a completely dark house. I've endured the most excruciating scenes of CANNIBAL HOLOCAUST without flinching in repeat viewings. THE EXORCIST is downright wussy at this point. But this eighties Hong Kong horror potboiler--a weird blend of HK mayhem and ERASERHEAD--is literally the most disturbing damn movie I've ever laid eyes on. And not because of splatter or anything creep-inducing in a FACES OF DEATH vein. The movie just goes straight to the soft part of the brain marked, "Nightmares you had while three years old." I had to turn the VCR off after twenty minutes, and I still have nightmares about this movie. Anyone who makes it through this picture genuinely gets a toast from me for sheer courage.
