The film may be flawed, but its message is not.

It’s sentimental, ridiculously long and only occasionally funny

hearken people...the angel's ain't singing glad tidings of joy but rather communicating through whisperings in your head that cause you to go insane or manipulate susceptible religious fanatics (the devil's minions) to kill others or themselves. pyriel, an angel even more evil than lucifer, has arisen to power and is on an undaunted mission to destroy all of us humans (after all we're just a bunch of monkeys) and to sew some new seed. now i am not one to think that all angels do not possess a soul, any more than i think that all people possess a heart and soul, but i do find it to actually be a tad bit pertinent and there has to be at least a measure of truth to angels pyriel and zophael and some humans method of madness...insidiously that of genocide...humans killing other humans out a sense of superiority over the others ethnicity, culture, belief system, and out of greed and power...sound familiar? what with all our new technology and the gross overpopulation of the earth we could very well be on our way to a not so nice ending...fueled by new and already existing wars (over oil) and skirmishes (from unintentional or intentionally plotted misunderstandings). we are living one of the most stressful moments in history with a very shaky economy (well the masses of poor probably do not notice to much difference).where religious fanatics and patriarchal based religions...oh yeah...that would be all of them, and corrupt politicians and greedy, power hungry individuals who are hoarding the wealth at the expense of everyone else. the devil (and for all we know that might be the controlling, manipulative, jealous entity that calls himself god that is in the bible, torah, qua ran or it could be those damn popes, bishops, and priests, etc. who rewrote a book for there obvious agendas.) has only to fuel the fire of discontent with alcohol "spirits" and drugs and increasing mental illness so that our Armageddon would just be perceived as us doing it to ourselves. oh, the good parts of the movie...danyeal, the son of Valerie Rosales and arch angel daniel, along with his girlfriend, Magdalena, are the two people who are going to change the course of the inevitable end for us monkeys into a pleasant one. they have the assistance of the "reformed" archangel gabriel at crucial moments (i am not personally satisfied that it isn't for altruistic motives...but he does blaze out into a coven of white doves into the radiant, bright light of god at the end. and courageous efforts of the morgue doctor, the encouragement from Mary who was a unwilling host to evil previously, and the sacrifice of his mother's and father's lives. anyway...a good reminder that we should all get serious about love, peace, justice, happiness and all the good stuff happening. and remember we need a beautiful planet to live on, so tread lightly...i am pretty sure there is no other place quite like it. so monkey's...monkey see..monkey do. be the change you wish to see. imagine all the people..! submitted with the utmost love and respect!

I think many people mistakenly classify these movies as "B" horror, and that's unfair. "The Ascent", in particular, has a few very profound moments, as well as a decent story, great dialogue and a depth that more than makes up for the occasional plot confusion and slightly lacking special effects. Christopher Walken delivers what I think is one of his best performances. If you like thoughtful movies that will keep you pondering past the credits, this is a good one. Even if you don't much care for the two that precede this one, it's worth a look. The "Prophecy" series does what too few trilogies do - saves the best for last.

I just finished watching all three Prophecy movies in the last month or so and I'd have to say that they do correspond with each other pretty well. The first one could stand on its own of course, but it's well worth it to see the second and third to keep the angels vs. humans idea going.Prophecy 3 did not disappoint me the way Prophecy 2 did. The storyline actually made sense, and it wasn't full of dull scenes that make you want to skip to the next scene with Chris Walken in it. This movie had a lot more action/violence than the first two put together. I thought the acting was pretty good, except for that one rather cheesy scene in the desert between Maggie and Zophael. Christopher Walken was amazing as usual although this time Gabriel was a little tamer and had less punchlines, and well, he wasn't exactly the big bad he was in the first two. Still, it was interesting to see how he had changed over the years while being stuck as a human, and of course most of his scenes were pretty hilarious. I expected more angels this time, which there wasn't, and I thought the scene with Danyael vs. Pyriel at the end was a little short considering the huge build up to this point from Prophecy 2. All in all it was a good trilogy. There's something pretty damn cool about angels with long hair, black trench coats, and black nail polish! 7 out of 10.

Christopher Walken's Gabriel angel was what made the first two Prophecy films work for me. This one really didn't! All that was memorable was the scene in the café where Gabriel makes a large breakfast order...Woah, I like totally didn't understand this film at all, man. The plot was like, something about some angel kid or something, I dunno. It was well produced, looked nice and shiny, a good bit of blood and fairly impressive fx - especially for a STV film. But where was the big guy? DIMENSION FILMS PRESENTS Christopher Walken "The Prophecy III: The Ascent"... Why is he being given the title credit here? He is NOT the lead role... That Vincent Spanno guy is. Eh, he's okay. Also there's that kid, Danyael, played by Dave Buzzota. Terminator 2 is coming back to me... He was okay as well. The female lead was fairly crap - Karyen Butler.. I couldn't give a crap about them, to be honest. There was totally not enough of Gabriel - who is no longer an angel, but a human, and so is stripped of his powers. So no ass kickin outta him this time round, unfortunately, and so no crazy one-liners. He also has long hair that doesn't suit him - he reminds me of Bill (the Bill that got killed).Steve Hytner returns as Joseph for the first quarter of the film - he's pretty cool, I can't remember where I know him from... He's been in all three Prophecy films. Brad Dourif's in here too...The Prophecy III: Judgement Day was an alright second sequel that I'm not in a rush to see again. Watch out for Chris in Romance & Cigarettes!
