musicbman Having worked in telemarketing - did some night work at a room very similar to the place at the start of this movie - I feel this film does an perfect job of capturing that atmosphere - it was spot on, the pitches, the types of characters that work in these type rooms to a tee. It captured they types of people - like the Indian guy - had all the right things to say on the wall - he spent so much time putting it up, he probably didn't make many calls - or had call reluctance, the lifers like Gene, etc., the desperation, the call reluctance - that Penny had when not selling for Kelly Gran. Some things I didn't like was where Penny, while working for Kelly Grant and breaks out of his call reluctance, he yells "Chang, go get your FxxxN checkbook and write me an Fxxxn Check NOW!" - I wish they would have been a bit more accurate - no one buys if you try to bully them that way - never works - but if Penny would have been firm but suave, that would have been better. Also, the ending left something to be desired - but overall, this is the absolute best, most accurate depiction of telemarketing out there, very entertaining, good acting. I wish there was a prime gig 2! Anyone out there that knows of any other movie that even comes close (yes, I've seen Boiler Room, Glengarry, Wall Street, Tin Men, Bonfire of the Vanities) - is there one out there? LOVE THIS MOVIE>

randal_helm If you are one of the people that complained that the "plot was all over the place", then you are complaining that it wasn't predictable enough for you. Frankly, I almost always find that if a movie cheesed you off enough for you to pan it, like giving it 1-5 stars, then it was successful.I don't write bad move reviews, I don't bother. I toss them away, and don't think about them again. If you are drawn in enough to be disappointed, it was a good movie. Talk about the moral or ethical decisions that bothered you, that AFFECTED you, but don't blame the movie. You felt something didn't you? Then it was a good movie.Now if you don't like this movie, or movies like Lost in Translation, or Crash, or Sideways, etc., I'm sure that there is something with Lindsey Lohan/Hilary Duff/Tom Arnold/Hugh Grant playing or in a video store near you.Needless to say, I thought the acting was great, the story compelling, and the ambiguity/moral dilemmas realistic. Life isn't black or white, and the good guy and the bad guy can be the same guy. The ending that everyone's complaining about is what took this from a pretty good to must see. I guess I can be thankful that most people don't want to have to think when they are being entertained by the lights and pretty colors, because I was able to pickup this DVD for about $2 on Amazon.Its a sin that a good movie goes for $2, but Guess Who is $3.21...

iinsic412 Knowing the subject matter of this film - shilling fraudulent "whatever's" in a boiler room - I assumed it would follow closely in the footsteps of David Mamet's incomparable "Glengarry Glen Ross" (as was the case in the over-hyped and disappointing "Boiler Room"). Almost immediately, however, it becomes apparent that such is not the case. While "GGR" gave us stark images of the salemen's desperation in the context of their work, "Gig" delves completely into the life of Pendleton (Penny) Wise, played by Vince Vaughn. It is in showing the emptiness of his entire existence - and not just his work life - that one can see how susceptible he is to the machinations of the almost mythical Kelly Grant (Ed Harris), and his partner Caitlin Carlson (Julia Ormond). From his shabby apartment to his touching relationship with childhood friend Joel (Rory Cochrane) - who is, in spite of or because of his physical handicap, an even bigger loser than Wise and all of Wise's foundering sales cronies - you know he is destined for littler and worser (hey, if Shakespeare can use it, so can I) things. Wise is, as Grant puts it, "a big fish in a little pond." His ego won't let him believe it, but ultimately experience is a hard teacher. For those who just like Harris' style, you won't be disappointed. And Ormond does manage to sum up far more emotion than she did in the pathetic "Sabrina." But it is Vaughn, as stoic as Sheriff and as cynical as Trent Walker, who draws you into his character and keeps you from guessing too far ahead. The movie is worth watching just for the last five minutes or so, from the time Grant claims, "I'm not a closer" to the rolling credits. You'll think about this one for quite a while after viewing. And that's a good thing.

Snuffmonk I love watching movies. I work for blockbuster for God's sakes....I watch movies all the time. I thought this movie had a good premise and that the actiing was fine(although not stellar). The thing that bothers me about this movie was the ending...it left too many unanswered questions....to many unknowns....It is good for a bored night when u don't have anything else to do but don't ask questions after it's over because they will be unanswered and unknown...big dissappointment. Overall decent movie but not great. if you can see it for free like I did...it's not a bad way to spend an hour and a half if not...wait till it comes on cable
