The movie's neither hopeful in contrived ways, nor hopeless in different contrived ways. Somehow it manages to be wonderful

THE POSSESSION OF MICHAEL KING is a found footage horror flick about a grieving widower who decides to disprove the existence of the paranormal by allowing a supposed demon to enter his body. You can guess where it goes from there. I was hoping for some B-movie fun with this one, but what I got was a noisy little escapade that only succeeded in giving me a headache. The main actor shouts and screams and gnashes his teeth a lot while failing to elicit the viewer's sympathy, while the rest of the movie is shot with a dull, greyed-out colour palette and a lack of vitality. Overall, the only thing this film did was depress me.

It's the first question I asked myself after battling my way through this insanely idiotic film.OK, I'll pretty much watch anything and I like a lot of stuff that is probably questionable in the eyes of others, but what I never put up with or will ever understand is when the characters brought to life on screen do not behave in any way like a normal person would. And no, I'm not only talking about the ever more possessed Michael King character of the title. This is a guy who lost his wife tragically and now lives with sister (whose name I cant even remember 5 mins after the end) and daughter as they all get back on their feet. Michaels answer to his grief is to go about researching every dark occult ritual, black magic spell and cursed trinket available to him while filming his own every move 24 hours a day throughout the process, in order to prove that there just isn't a God/Satan. It's a flimsy kickstarter for his behaviour at best and given the audience no nothing of the guy before his loss, we cant feel why he is so motivated to go down this path. The documentary is so involved that he ignores his also grieving daughter to a point where you kinda feel like the sister is only there to babysit. The two females in the house with him barely say a word all film. As Michael slips deeper into strange behaviours and creepy voice projections/visions, there is no help from anyone close to him to try and get him the treatment he needs to recover or to put a stop to the negative impact the documentary is having on his life. When things are very obviously going too far, absolutely everyone in this film continues on like nothing can help him or that they don't even care enough to want to help. The girls just end up abandoning him, never call to check on him, never send someone around to check on him nor report his increasingly violent behaviour to the police. His co film maker, goes missing for large parts of the film and seems unfazed by the crazy stuff he has been witness to, not to mention the very quick unravelling of the bloke who is the subject of his film. When Michael himself hears voices telling him to do unspeakable things or when he wakes up from doing something he has no recollection of (like killing the dog) he not only continually ignores his own evidence and knowledge of the acts but continues to film them and proceed with the documentary like nothing even happened! To top this disaster off, there is no explanation given as to why we can hear the voices in his head on film, the attempted quiet/super loud audio jumps are just wrong every single time and the finale in the house made me laugh entirely. "I hope someone finds this film" - dude you're in the middle of middle class white suburbia not burkitsville forest..............There's no joy to be had in watching this, not even for an avid horror film buff (film buff in general) like me. If you're thinking movie and chill with your significant other, try something that wont make one of you want to run for the hills!!

I really thought that cinema had plunged into the lower depths with under the skin, and that it surly couldn't get any lower. In fact such is my displeasure of that film; I have invented a new award which I have named after it. The under the skin or UTS award will be given to those films I consider to be just as bad as or worse. In my review of that particular film, (which is elsewhere on IMDb) I referred to it as the worst film ever made and said of its director that " given there are so many film makers making absolute trash these days, that is quite an achievement." And with that statement in mind, it is hardly surprising that there are directors queuing up to make films which qualify for a UTS award, and I am delighted to say that the first such award goes to David Jung's the possession of Michael King. It's the type of film that, if there were such a person in overall charge of the studios in Hollywood, I would be inclined to want to meet with him or her to say that Hollywood used to make such excellent films , Ben Hur, the ten commandments, the sound of music Etc. I would then go on to ask what happened. Why is Hollywood churning out such rubbish? How do films like the possession of Michael King get to be made? I'm pretty sure the response will be that as long as there are distributors willing to release them and advertisers to sponsor them, and of course an audience happy to part with their money to watch them, they will continue to be made. The sad part in all this is that today's generation, those of whom enjoy films like this really believe that this is true cinema. Well it is not. There are 44 users of IMDb that loved the possession of Michael King and with the greatest of respect to them, in my opinion have no real appreciation of what cinema should be and that some of them probably think that Charlton Heston is a motorway service station. Oh yes. What is it about? Simple. Man videos himself doing all kinds of weird things to prove that there is no such thing as the supernatural, and sod telling a story. That's it. I'm sorry but there really is nothing more to say to describe the film. If you want to see a film of that genre, there are plenty good ones out there. The omen trilogy of the seventies, the sixth sense, and perhaps the original hammer films. But please don't waste your time and money on films like the possession of Michael King because they really are utter s**t.

This movie was surprising in how good it was,not knowing or expecting anything than the run of the mill cliché horror. It's about Michael who loses his wife and being a absolute athiest starts to experiment using himself he invites God and the devil to show up well God did not but something else did after he uses two or three different occults to help bring him what he did not believe, it soon starts to fall apart and now possessed is getting much worse by the day,he is loosing self control but can he overcome what has turned into his worse nightmare. Overall I would say a great hr or two is well worth investing in this quite original possession movie.
