best movie i've ever seen.
Doomtomylo
a film so unique, intoxicating and bizarre that it not only demands another viewing, but is also forgivable as a satirical comedy where the jokes eventually take the back seat.

It's easily one of the freshest, sharpest and most enjoyable films of this year.

The movie's neither hopeful in contrived ways, nor hopeless in different contrived ways. Somehow it manages to be wonderful

Forget the reviews. Watch the movie. This movie grows and grows and grows and now has a place as a classic. Not only is it a great cast that will never be assembled, but it is a great combination of male angst and 80s acting and directing. It is not a story of good versus evil but is the story of people in social stratification that are both desperately trying to break out. There are scenes in here that perfectly detail male bonding and brotherhood that deserve a good look. Do yourself a favor and spend an afternoon.

I read this book in high school and watched the movie many years ago. I watched it again this past weekend for the fun of it. Overall a pretty good movie and it's really cool to see all of those young, soon to be Hollywood heavyweights in one of their very first, if not first movie role. The very worst part of this movie - the soundtrack. The music is absolutely horrendous. Francis Ford Coppola hired his father Carmine to compose the score and it is just awful. During dramatic moments in the movie, the music sounds like something you would hear in a kindergarten class - lighthearted, more like a carnival ride than a death scene.Other than the terrible music, still a very watchable movie.

Some people love the movie because of the actors, others hate it because they want a "hit", but it should be judged on what is in the movie. And sorry to say, much of the material was feeble. Not sure the lead character helped, but it's almost as if the director wanted to make a romance. The result is a film that stumbles its way through 100 minutes, wasting so much potential. If the movie didn't mope and whine its way through, trying too hard to be a tearjerker without showcasing any real emotion, it could have actually been special. Not to forget it attempting to bash some moral story onto the viewer, but not knowing what was the moral story it wanted to bash into people in the first place. The result is a movie containing nothing to love, or hate. A vacuum.OK, it wasn't all bad, it was simply without direction or purpose. Some decent cinematography, a few flashes of potential in individual scenes. But not enough to make a movie. The director needed to pick a direction, and didn't.

The golden age of film was in 1980's, some will argue the 1930's & 1940s, though during those years actors were without color. The director Francis Ford Coppola laid down his desire for dark drama and intertwined a fresh cast of faces no audience had ever witnessed. Some of which went on to carry fortunate future titles, building long careers in acting. With this cast alone, a symmetry of poverty was produced in an honest portrait of Rich Kid Vs. Poor Kid. We are all invited into the diary of a lost boy group without assistance attending school under the thumb of wealthy bullies. Leading into a tragic sequence of inner city blues, as raw and detailed as reality.
